i RECENTLY GOT MY BACHELOR'S ARTS IN HUMAN DEVELOPMENT FROM UCSD AND I AM GOING TO NURSING SCHOOL AT NATIONAL UNIVERSITY FOR MY SECOND DEGREE BSN TO BECOME AN RN. I ALSO HAVE A CNA LICENSE. WITH THESE CREDENTIALS SHOULD I MAKE MORE MONEY AS A NEW RN GRAD THAN IF I HAD A ADN OR DIPLOMA IN SAN DIEGO?????

P.S. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW THE NURSING PROGRAM AT NATIONAL IS STRUCTURED. IS IT REAL STRENOUS AND HECTIC. I HAVE TWO KIDS AND I PLAN TO WORK??? THANKS

Probly not, most new grads are paided the same. If your inexperianced as a nurse it doesn't realy matter if you are a ADN, BSN, MSN. BSN sometimes get paid .45 cents to a $1.00 more a hour and sometimes it's exactly the same pay as a ADN.

Specializes in NICU.

I agree. The new grad rate is about a dollar more with a BSN (though some places it's exactly the same), and you might get a 2 or 3 or 4% differential with a BSN. It's not a whole lot more.

I think the whole thing is that if your unexperianced, your unexperianced and will get the same rate as every other nurse. A unexperianced MSN, might know more than a ADN, but they still havent worked in a hospital and been tried and tested,,which takes years.

anybody know of how much is ucsd or scripps are paying for new grad bsn, rn today?

CNAlady,

Wow, reading your post was freaky! I have a BA from UCSD in Human Development as well! When did you graduate? I graduated in 2003. I was going to be a teacher with my degree but after working with other people's children I decided nursing would be a better career for me. So here I am, a student at a JC trying to get my ADN. Kind of backwards! =)

I had the same question as you did, would I get paid more for my Bachelor's? I don't know the answer but I'm hoping maybe just a penny more? I'm considering going to get another bachelor once I am an RN through a step-up program but I don't know if this is necessary. However I do know if I plan to get my masters then I'll have to get my BSN unless I go to UCSF for my master's (they do not require your BSN for a master, any BA/BS will do).:icon_roll

How funny that we both had the same major @ UCSD. There are two other girls who are pre-nursing at Grossmont and graduates from UCSD in the same boat as me, one had a Bio degree and the other Cog Sci.

I wish UCSD had a nursing major darn it! I might have made my decision a lot earlier! hahaha

Best of luck! :balloons:

i graduated from UCSD & am now on the waitlist at grossmont too!! what a small world. i was a sociology major, but i definitely wish they'd had a nursing program at UCSD.

when did you graduate from UCSD & how far along are you in the program at grossmont (if you don't mind me asking)?

Wow, that's so crazy! Small world for sure! I graduated in 2003, did Forensic Tech at Grossmont for a couple of semesters and then decided nursing was for me. I finished up the pre-reqs fall 2005 and got on the wait-list Jan 2006. They say it'll be two years, looks like Jan 2008 start date. When did you get on the list? I'm actually taking Bio 142 so I can get on other wait lists.

Don't know if you are able to move, but Saddleback College in Mission Viejo (OC) has no wait list. They accept applications each semester and whoever has the higher grades gets in first! Might want to look into it...that's what I'm planning on doing. Hopefully I'll start in August 07...I get to apply in March once physio lab is done.

How far are you? Are you on the list? I can't wait to be done with the waiting!

i graduated from UCSD in 2004 & started my pre-reqs at grossmont that fall, finished & applied to the nursing program in spring of 2005. they told me the wait list would be two years but EVERYONE i talked to that was already in the program said one year, so i planned on that & it didn't happen. soooo now i'm crossing my fingers for a fall 2007 start date!

i took a summer school class at saddleback a few years ago (to get rid of some humanities credits for revelle) & it was a beautiful campus! i just don't think my grades would be competitive enough to get in there (i have a 3.2-ish GPA from uscd & grossmont combined) & i get to live rent free while i go to grossmont, so it would be super expensive for me to move up there for school. i've heard really great things about their program, though...

(i know this is bad, but...) i just hope that a lot of people drop off the grossmont waiting list & we can get in there quickly! :)

Im in my 2nd semester at Grossmont, and to all of you on the wait list, be ready even if they say you aren't going to be in for a certain semester. We had probably 5 people get called after the official yes or no for that certain semester. I was one of them. Some people were even being called the first week of school, so be ready!

Ok, this is starting to get even creepier, I went to Revelle too!!!! Hahahaha! All those darn Hum and science classes. The chem and math and bio we had to take paid off though, right? Wow, crazy. Did you live on campus? I lived in Atlantis my freshman year and Matthews Apts my sophmore year.

good luck on getting in, hopefully they call you soon!!! =):uhoh3:

How do you like Grossmont's program? I agree that you can be called any minute. A guy in my class just got called last week! Half way through the semester!!! I can't imagine starting then, that would be hard to catch up!

I'm hanging on to Grossmont's list but Saddleback will be getting my application as soon as I finish Physio lab! Whoever calls me first is where I'm going! :monkeydance:
