This thread has been so helpful. I will be starting my preceptorship in Sept. and plan on taking the NCLEX in january. How soon can I start to apply for jobs/new grad programs? Is there anything else that I can do to help the process like classes or cerfitications. I have a job at a hosptial as a lab/unit assistant now and hopefully that will fuel a pre diem position later but I want to apply for everything I can.
I cant move out of the bay area anytime soon due to my husband's job and free childcare from our parents.

I started this site months ago and feel excited for all the responses it has received.
I still haven't landed a job BUT let me tell you what I have done.

    - PALS and ACLS classes
-Will be volunteering at my local hospital
-Landed a part-time gig from sept-dec giving vaccinations
-Shadowing a nurse in a SNF

I will plan to look for a SNF job in September. I'm done for now with looking at
new grad positions. It's been 9 months and I'm so drained and just need experience.
I had a interview with UKiah Medical Center. Great hospital, wanted the job but didn't get chosen for the peer interview. I think I need major help with interviewing even though I though I did all right.

Keep the faith and keep it coming

I know this thread is for RN new grad programs but I was wondering if anybody knew an easy way of getting listings for SNFs, LTCs, etc. I still plan on applying to hospitals but in the case that I don't get anywhere anytime soon, I was going to look into my other options. I live in northern California but I am willing to relocate anywhere else in California if it means having a job and getting experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You would be surprised!!!!!! I am so greatful to for posting this site! I had been searching for ages for a complete listings of nursing homes in the State of California!! I called and sent out many resumes via online and it did work!!!!!!!!!! I have to move from my appartment by the end of this month!!!!!!!!!!! I pushed everything aside in my life! I said to my self: I will pass NCLEX, I will move foward, I will find a job, I will succeed!!!!!!!! and I gave my 30 day notice...!!!!!!!!!!! I have accomplished all!!!!!!!!!!!! But wondering if there is another opportunity somewhere near Morro bay or Marina del Rey? or anywhere near or around central Ca!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG if not I will have to move all the way into Northern Ca. It's a blessing to have accomplished many things in my life and to have a job during these times of crisis.

I got my CA license today and I guess I just want to grab the world in my hands..

okay, i live in utah but relocating to northern ca. although i want to live in southern ca, i did not find this site on time! anyhow, tomorrow morning you have to call the places on this list near riverside or perhaps redlands and ask if they are hiring new graduated rn! they will tell you tou go to their center and apply.. remember most ltc or rehabs centers will want to interview after turning in your application ( they told me this but i'm in utah so i ended up faxing them my resume versus personally applying ) the process usually takes 1 hour so be ready to stay their! go to:

    http://www.caloptima.org/documents/ltc_con_fac.pdf

they are not all hiring, but many are! :d so start making a list of who you are going to call tomorrow and be ready to write their address or look their address up before tomorrow and be ready to run there and apply!!!!! i know you will get hired. i turned in 4 aplications in less then 10 minutes after they told me they were hiring! i'm focusing in central ca now !!!!

good luck and print your resume before you go to these places, it will help you fill out the applications and take your cover letter and reference letters or reference information to give to them! go get them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
