CA BRN 2018 Fee Hike... What's the deal?

  1. Not sure if this topic was already posted but I just recently noticed that almost all of the fees related to nursing license applications/renewals have increased quite a bit.

    Fee Schedule

Unfortunately I'm not well versed in healthcare policies but I do know it was from the Senate Bill 1039 that set into effect on April 5th. My question is, does anyone know why the fees have increased and for what purpose? I am also startled at the drastically increased price of a PHN application from $150 to $500 and the addition of a new $125 renewal fee without any other requirements. Doesn't make any sense.

That's crazy! I applied for licensure by endorsement the day before and had no idea about the change in fees.

I'm curious too. I literally just applied for my license this morning... from PA, this is going to cost me $500-$600 easily. And that's without a temporary license, which I'm opting NOT to get because the processing time for a temp license states 8-10wks and the permanent license is 10-12wks :|

For many years it has been reported that the state of CA has been under extreme pressure due to budget shortfalls. This has caused intensified attempts at revenue generation at many levels.
