California Corrections New Hire

Published

I recently received an "Conditional offer for employment" as a Registered Nurse, CF in California and was wondering how long it typically takes to begin working and what exactly does the hiring process entail. Thanks for any info.

Hi Stumpy,

Congratulations...What is a "Conditional offer for employment". I just received my test results for an oral interview that I had last month and will wait as they go down the list. This was for Los Angeles County Sherrifs.

It means that pending a background check and TB test I am basically hired. I have waited a long time for this and interviewed at several other prisons before finally getting hired so I am extremely stoked. I just got a call from my hiring authority and he said my paperwork is almost approved so I will be starting soon. Good luck with LA county. Peace

Thanks...Good Luck to you.

I was looking in to jobs in Cali at the San Q prison, and online they have a test they want you to take. What is that test? I want to know what I'm getting into before I click the "take test" button. Is the process of getting hired very involved?

Thanks!

The "test" is basically a questionaire to evaluate your level of experience. Click here if you have responded to a medical emergency, click here if you have acted as a charge nurse, etc. No worries, it's very short and it's not really a test. Points are given based on your experience/training but even a new grad with no experience can easily score high enough to be placed on the eligibility list. Good luck

Hi Stumpy - Which prison? I have also received an offer as an RN at Chowchilla (need my TB, etc.). Where will you be working?
