Hello all!
I am about to go to school for LVN. Student loans will be 40K + interest and I wanted to know what the realistic pay scale for a brand new LVN in the California Bay Area is? I have read different things on websites so aside from that, I wanted the real truth from the real people doing the work.
All help is appreciated and wanted. Opinions are encouraged. And thank you to everyone in advance that is willing to help me.
Cheers to good health!

Moved to the California Nurses forum for more responses.
Be advised that the job market in the SF Bay Area is horribly flooded with nurses. As we speak, there are too many nurses in the area and not enough jobs to go around for everyone who would like to work.
I would be very grateful for any assistance and /or advice you could offer me. Thank you for posting a comment to my question.

You are also looking at nursing homes and not any hospitals. We do not see them hiring LVNs any longer and the ones that they have are being phased out. As menioned above in another post, many have left the area because of the lack of jobs.
Well then where are the jobs in the Bay Area? Why are they being phased out, who is replacing them? I know that there are at least 7 private schools for LVN specific training and California has a 74% pass rate on people taking the NCLEX-PN There must be jobs. Just people not looking good enough.
There are LVN jobs, they are just in long term care ie. nursing homes. LVN's are becoming more and more restricted in where they can work. The LVN's in acute care are being phased out and replaced with RN's. I chose to work for the state mainly because of the retirement. I highly recommend this to you, as you are close to where I work. I left some info on your profile as a visitor message.

When I couldn't find employment in the Bay area, I left. I'm certain that I'm not the only one, LVN or RN, who had to leave the Bay area for lack of work. This is not a new situation.

WHAT IS THE difference b/t lpn and lvn???
In CA and TX LPNs are called Licensed Vocational Nurses, not Licensed Practical Nurses. Each state has its own scope of practice for this job category, but essentially they are the same.

As far as people not looking hard enough, that isn't the problem. You noticed there are 7 LVN schools in the bay area, they are pumping out grads like crazy. Lots of nurses also move to this area because it is very high paying, but still not great compared to the cost of living. I was up there for 9 months for RN school, and I applied everywhere for just a part time LVN position, (3 years experience), nursing homes, etc. I didn't get a bite. I ended up just not working while I was in school.
