Caffeine Alert

i wanted to pass on something that i recently discovered! i have been having an influx of high schoolers drinking energy drinks as a form of refreshment. after having a complete "in your face" with the principal, he "saw" my point of view. well, last week a tiny seventh grade girl came in shaking, telling me that she wasn't well. on a bet she had taken 16 "extreme energy mints", and she handed me the bottle. i have never seen this before. it looks exactly like a black tic tac case and is sold otc at any large superstore. (in fact, her mother had innocently bought these for her.) there are no directions on it so i had no idea what she was taking, again they look just like tic tacs. when i got in touch with the store, on the big box that the container is sold out of, it says that one of the tiny containers is equivalent to 5 energy drinks!!! i am not sure the exact amount but i believe there are about 40 in the container. they are called extreme energy mints.

I know where you are coming from. I had JH boy last year drink a whole bottle of energy "spray". He was jittery with a high pulse and as red from head to toe! I felt like I should have taken him out to the track and let him run laps till he cooled off!

:lol2: Cowgirl!

I've seen this too. Scary huh. You can't buy cold medicine without an ID, but they can buy all of the other uppers they want.

They'll get there. Every time kids finds something new to abuse the gov't catches on awhile later.

That said, I'd like to see stats about injuries/deaths from these energy drinks.

I've seen first hand the effects of the cold medicine. Usually a couple foolish people have to die before the gov't takes action.

OM Goodness! That's exactly what she had taken! Thank you bergren for the more detailed search! At least with the liquid energy drinks (just one) there is a feeling of fullness, but these tiny mints....!!!

We were traveling and a bought a tin of something called "ice breakers" made by Hershey which according to the tin had Vitamins A C E plus zinc and said nothing about caffeine. We were hurrying to beat rush hour traffic and I grabbed it, paid, and we took off. Turns out that in addition to a LOT of caffeine, it's first ingredient was sorbitol which gives me horrendous diarrhea. They tasted fantastic and I had one about 4pm and another about 6pm and was still awake at 6am plus the sorbitol got me too. :madface:I shared with my husband and he slept and didn't get the runs which was totally unfair. I've since seen them at grocery stores and in the checkout lines in various stores that attract kids around the little kid stuff which I object to. :angryfire
