One of my goals is to eventually be able to purchase a house. Many of my nursing colleagues are purchasing homes that are worth $450,000, $500,000 or even more. Sadly, my budget is about half of that or even less, which means the houses I have to choose from are not appealing. Most of them are small, old, or both.
I am just curious how other nurses manage to purchase decent houses? I've been looking through my income, and I just can't find a way to make it possible to incorporate such a house into my budget. I am salary, so there are no opportunities for overtime.
What are other nurses' experience with buying houses? How did you make it work? Did it require switching jobs? Inquiring minds want to know!
Thanks ?

They won't fix the system because too many pigs have their snouts in the trough. Take a look at the military. We spend more than the next ten countries combined behind us. Why? Just look at the latest fighter jet. Untold billions on development over how many years but it doesn't work. Why?
America is about spin! Almost everything is a lie because lobbyists and big business owns the politicians! After citizens united was enacted, the country of fake values went into overdrive! Just as you cannot believe a word a republican politician says, you also need to worry about the justice system here. Even that is bought and paid for by lobbyists (religious or political affiliations) from big business. Why should politicians worry?
Just consider that! Our justice system is corrupt! Just think Bill Barr! Or Trump? Imagine that! America is a country where women can't have control of their bodies because moronic old decrepit white men make the laws and idiotic women actually go along with it. How many women voted republican?
They assaulted and crippled the media making republicans even doubt the truth. It's a country that thrives on delusional thinking. White picket fence and we are the greatest country in the history of the world when a few short months ago, how many people were in FOOD LINES!
There's data stating that about a third of Americans couldn't cope with a bill of over $500. Think about that! $500 would bankrupt 1/3 of Americans! Just take a look at how many people will soon be evicted from their homes!
It's a country of lies, built on lies and sustained by lies! And people are so insecure that they actually get upset if that's revealed to them. They prefer to believe the lies while they line up in food lines and to vote and to give their money to the charlatan evangelicals and politicians!
They have even convinced Hispanics, Blacks, Women, Jews and Asians who are discriminated against and persecuted legally and physically to vote AGAINST THEIR BEST INTERESTS because they are so insecure and want to belong!
What's the motto here?
Fake it till you make it!
Yet you were talking a load of codswallop about Europe!
Mate, if you add up aside from federal taxes, our local taxes, toll roads, bridges, Healthcare costs, state taxes etc, I am pretty sure we pay more or as much as some European countries in taxes.
I was unhappy with some of your posts questioning trans issues and saying you love to hit on lesbians, but I am in love with this whole post! This is exactly how I feel about America. Nice to see a man standing up for women and abortion rights, and noticing the injustices our country commits against many minority groups. I agree us being the best is a total lie. We are the best for a tiny fraction of our population.
Although our healthcare system isn't socialized, we spend more than any country in the world on healthcare, but we don't have the best outcomes. People become homeless due to healthcare bills, even people who have insurance. Our public healthcare systems paying for people who can't pay drains our gvt money more than a socialized system would. We refuse to offer healthcare to certain groups. Then, due to lack of preventative care, they get super sick, end up w/ huge hospital bill, can't pay it, hospital or gvt eats the cost and we pay for it in our taxes or insurance premiums anyway. To people who complain about paying for other people's healthcare, you already are! If you got on board with them being able to have preventative care that is MUCH cheaper than ER and ICU bills, people would be healthier and we would all pay less for insurance! @Curious1997 now I want to be your internet friend ?
I meet people who are on Medicaid, FoodStamps, and welfare. They WANT to work but if they do they will make "too much" and lose all govt assistance, but they won't make enough to pay for healthcare, food, and rent. So they stay unemployed and then wealthy people here call them a "drain on society," when in reality we are keeping them down by making the jobs they have access to pay so little they are better off not working and getting govt money that these rich people pay for in their taxes!
These people's selfishness is the real drain on society. We keep people down when they could be contributing members of society, and many feel bad about themselves for not working and the stigma of needing govt support. This is why I stopped going to parties in Silicon Valley. People talking about certain groups as if they are the problem, when they make so much money they can't even spend it, but refuse to make a little less so others can make a living wage. @Curious1997 maybe you would have the courage to talk back to these "economic experts." If they spent one day in the finance department of a community clinic or county hospital I bet they could learn some things. But, they are too good to step foot in one of "those places."

It's the liberal wokeness of liking to feel the guilt but they don't have the courage to experience it. California. The state of wanting to complain about the suffering of the homeless as long as they don't have their communities in my neighborhood.
It's a nation of hypocrites on both sides of the political spectrum.

I don't know what you and Libra are on about. You guys for some reason thought I hit on lesbians for sex when it was the furthest thing from my mind.
Women are fascinating. All ages, ethnicities and genders. They negotiate a world with Neanderthals like me and succeed. You don't think they have fascinating stories to tell? I am a very curious person as the name implies. You don't think a dinner or drinks is a good way to hear their perspectives and solutions? Of course I have to charm them first, but I am only interested in their experiences. Believe me, once a woman knows that you are not hitting on them and only interested in what they have to say, it's better than anything!

You love to preach your freedoms. You have any idea what the Swiss pay in taxes? Admittedly they absolutely get their moneys worth but it's the Swiss culture that would drive you insane. They are law abiding, rigid people who would not tolerate a republican even slightly. Even the right leaning Swiss are more center liberals than a moderate republican in this country.
The countries you touted, Poland and Romania, you wouldn't last a second. American white people for some insane reason think that European whites are the same as them. Look at the jackasses in the right wingers here always co-opting European white right wingers. I honestly don't know why people are unable to unpack stuff especially nurses!

Use your nursing skills because it's adaptable to many different situations. Analyze Trump's exterior image, his speech and content. Even though he's saying exactly what you believe in, does he walk the walk? Is his background and behaviors resonant? Can you relate through personal experiences his life and yours?
If not, how can he possibly represent you? You have ADHD. How did Trump respond to the learning disabled person? Was that a correct interpretation of who Trump actually is? How many people did Trump emphatise with during the pandemic? Is that a true reflection of his character? Do you actually want to follow someone like that?
Now contrast Trump with Biden. A man who's wife and child died and currently has a son with addiction problems that Biden has supported and loved. Have you read Hunter Biden's book? Give it a try! A deeply flawed man who his father didn't give up on. What does that tell you about Joe Biden?
Hear, Hear!
Trump and Biden both have their flaws but I feel they do a good job of representing the political interests of those who voted for them. I am not saying that I would be "okay" anywhere. Rather, I assert that different places are unique and wonderful in their own way. The fact that their is great variance in the United States due to Federalism from state to state is a very good thing.

He just got bruises and scrapes but the prompt care wouldn’t even see him and I was afraid the local hospital (where I used to work) would activate a 20k trauma alert fee if we went to the ER. I did an eval and first aid but it was less than optimal.
This is in my opinion sad. How can anyone be in favor of a healthcare system that makes a parent choose to not take their child to a hospital after they had an accident? I simply don’t understand how people can be opposed to or afraid of universal healthcare. Wouldn’t it have felt better to be able to take your kid to the hospital?

Well that situation was mostly my poor choices in the past. Had I not run up so much student loan debt or even had something like Health sharing in place (such as Zion that I recently joined) or even paid the 2K per month for the Bronze Obama care I would have had better options. My poor choices are not an indictment over the healthcare system. I make 25K per month many of my clients are living off unemployment but their insurance still pays for them to seem me and even get advanced treatments like TMS.

Why can't your son get his own insurance policy thru Obamacare? Wouldn't it be cheaper as he's probably not making much money as a student? Also some colleges offer health insurance for their students, not sure if that is an option at his college.

#LesbiansLoveCurious1997 ? One thing to be grateful for is at least here in America I can type all this anti-patriotic stuff and not go to political prison for speaking out against the government. We do have a level of freedom. Just not equality and justice for all. And yes, I love CA but sometimes I do feel the over the top liberalism to be fake. People at fancy parties talking about how sad the homeless problem is and "we need to do something," but then protesting shelters or navigation centers being built in their neighborhood.

He probably cannot under Obama care because he is still considered a dependent and UCF does not have student policies. I doubt the Zion health sharing policy will be sufficient for the school of nursing if he get accepted (many colleges require students to have health insurance). If that becomes an issue I will purchase him an additional Obama care Bronze or Silver policy. The Zion health sharing at least gives us something if we break a leg or need an appendix out.
