Hello all!

I have been an ICU nurse for 7 years. The last 4 years I have spent travel nursing. I had always planned on going back to grad school but over the last 1.5 years I have gotten so burned out at the bedside. I think the biggest factors leading to my burn out have been toxic working environments and menial nursing tasks. I'm going forward with applying for CRNA school, but I'm afraid I'm not deeply invested enough to be sure I am making the right decision. I think I feel unsure mostly because of my general burn out in my career. For a short while I was even considering leaving nursing. But I dont want to make that big of a career change.

Has anyone else felt this way? What did you decide to do? Did you follow through with CRNA? How did you help your burn out?

I feel so unsure of what to do.

If your not "deeply invested" in CRNA school you won't make it.  I know everyone says it's so hard, yada, yada, but really, it takes a huge toll.  If you don't really want to do it it's probably not worth it.  Hard on your family, mental, and physical health.

Yes, I was leaving nursing until I decided to go to anesthesia school. I only did 2 travel assignments and didn’t like that either. Loved anesthesia but I expected it to be hard and it is. I loved learning to make my own decisions and to live with them. I went to a school that expects CRNAs to be independent, and now realize not all schools do. It was the change I needed.

I was in the exact same place!  I said that if I didn't get into anesthesia school I was quitting nursing and going into real estate.  I got in and it made a world of difference for me.  I absolutely LOVE anesthesia.  Best career move I'd ever made.
