BSN program

Specialties Home Health

Hey everyone. I'm new to this board...looks good. I'm in the process of working on my BSN and need 48 hrs with a HH nurse and can't find anywhere to do my hours. Anyone with any ideas?

I live in Southern CA and am reaching the point where I'm willing to travel just about anywhere in the state!

Hi there and welcome to the board. I would offer to accommodate you but unfortunately I'm only an LVN and I know that would not set over well with the school. Have you tried calling some of the home health agencies and asking? They are so in to looking for new employees it seems they would be willing to help in the hopes you would sign on once you graduate. Is this a shadow assignment or are you looking for a preceptor? You would probably have to come up with some sort of liability agreement so that might make things hard. I know I had a hard time finding a preceptor on my own. Anyway good luck to you!

I need a preceptor. If I don't get any offers by next week I may have to try hiring on somewhere! Beats me why none of the agencies have thought I might be interested in working for them..... they tell me they are short staffed (is anywhere not!?)

but don't ask if I'll do some work in trade....

The school has a liability form to waive worker comp and I have my own malpractice ins thru NSO...

thanks for offering...If I get real desperate I may see if my instructor has any objections to a LVN (I don't, I was a CNA, then LVN, now RN and hopefully someday will have my BSN)

This would entail a trip for you as I live in norther cali. I would, of course, have to get permission from my agency and the client(s) involved. Don't know if there would be enough "meat" for your clinical needs as I have easy cases. Anyway, hope you can get it together someway. It seems to me that the schools should have the big resp in providing this experience. I disagree with the student being required to find their own preceptors.

Mark. I wish they did set it up for us. But all the programs I have checked out here for BSN do it the same way....you either get good at begging or flunk.

renerian and NRSKaren: Thank you for your input. I think I found someone from VNA who can place me about an hour from home for sure....maybe closer, I should know by Monday. I'll keep everyone updated as I experience my adventure in home health.

caliotter3, Thank you for offering and giving me support. If ur ever down south here in CA email me and let's meet.

My daughter lives down there so when I come down (depends on car condition) I'll get in touch. I hope you enjoy your experience. I'm working in home health and really enjoy it. If you ever have any questions just PM me and we can talk.
