BSN 2010 Philippine Graduate

Published

Hello there. Need help from nurses with same experience/journey. I graduated 2010. Did not take PH Licensure Examinations. Returned to CA and applied both NCLEX LVN and RN. Received lists of reqs for RN and got approved to take NCLEX LVN. Due to excitement and all, I prepared myself to take the NCLEX LVN, and did not take care of the RN reqs. Been working as an LVN and now I wanted to apply for NCLEX RN but worried to get denied. Can anybody provide me a list of reqs to be submitted. And is it worth taking the risk? Or just be safe and apply out of state.
Thank you.

Unless you plan on working out of state makes no difference looking out of state. Most we are seeing is issues with medical and surgical plus obstetrics

If you really want to stay here in California, then apply for the RN license. You need to beat the odds. You will know if you're required to retake courses after their evaluation on your application. So apply first, and you'll know. My friend applied through Breeze online and she got the response after 2 months. Good luck.

Hi! I'm moving to california this year, same situation graduated nursing back in ph but didn't take the board where did you apply or get your assessment for RN NCLEX or lvn NCLEX?

You can apply directly to the BRN's website for the NCLEX-RN as an international graduate. The BRN does their own evaluation, so apply. Everything is online. And you can apply to the BVNPT to challenge the NCLEX-PN. Good luck.

Same situation, so is it more convenient to go for LVN then RN? Some are saying it is better to do LVN then take NCLEX-RN after. Also, would I still need to take the med-surg course to take NCLEX-RN even after becoming a LVN?

Whatever is convenient for you is what I can say. You won't know if you're required to take a course or courses unless if you apply to the California BRN. The board does their own evaluation.

Many have done the LVN first by challenging the BVNPT, including me. But still, it's a rigorous process. You may do that if you aren't in a hurry to be a California RN.

Now, if you really want to become a California RN, then apply to the BRN. Whatever they ask you to fulfill, then fulfill it. We are in pandemic and I have a few friends who got the eligibility last 2020 without being required to retake courses. This is prolly because of the pandemic and California is in need of nurses. You may do that as well - apply to the BRN and see what happens. If they require to retake courses, then it's up to you to fulfill that or challenge the LVN, or do both.

Go to this link and scroll down to Qualifying Methods and look for method 3 equivalent education and/or experience.

You should be able to see the requirements. You can apply through Breeze. The answers to all your questions are on the website. Good luck!
