At the last survey in the clinic that I work at, they decided to pull employment files on every staff member (and we are a larger clinic).  They looked at everyone's info and their credentials, then looked at license info for the nurses, education etc, and made sure everything matched--we were only missing 1 BLS card, and fixed that in a few minutes.  I think this situation would have been a nightmare that would have made my butt pucker!

On topic, I've known of two situations where where employees had misrepresented themselves.

One occurred back in '86 while I worked at Weed Rover Township Hospital when a police officer requested the driver's license of a paramedic and found it to be suspended.

I was met at the time clock, the same day as this incident, by the DON who said I need to bring in my current LPN license. I said I'd be happy to bring it in the next day. She told me no, I needed to go home and get it "right now!" I asked, "Am I going to be paid for this?!"

The other occurred at Wrongway Regional Medical Center a few years ago with which a nurse my wife Belinda worked.

This particular "nurse" was outspoken, intimidating  and often proclaimed herself to be "street smart". She worked as a student nurse, eventually said she had passed her NCLEX, and worked as a nurse on AMCU for two years. When license renewals came due, she was found not to have had a license!

*SHUDDER!*
