BS to MSN? online versus campus-based?

Published

I'm a recent grad with a BS in biology with a not-so-good gpa (2.5). I want to raise my gpa by taking more classes at the community college and shoot for the MSN program however, most of them required RN license. So how can I come about getting that or should I go for a BSN instead and work my way from there?

Also, are online programs the same as campus-based programs? Are there any disadvantages in online programs?

I'm sorry but I'm a little confused by your post. Are you already an RN with a bachelor's degree in biology or are you looking for a pre-licensure nursing program?

There are many options in nursing education but no one can give you answers if we don't know what you are asking.

Thanks!

No, i just have a non-nursing bachelors. i have no experience in nursing.

research CNL (clinical nurse leaders) programs. you can have a bachelors in any degree and get your MSN through the program. Most require you complete pre-reqs like A&P, chem, etc. I know UVA has a great program.

Judy, thanks for responding to my questions. There are many, MANY options for getting an RN but you need to figure out what works best for your financial situation and lifestyle.

You might want to check out these blogs by my dear friend, VickyRN, to learn more about the various options for you in nursing education. https://allnurses.com/nursing-blogs/?prefixid=blog_vickyrn She explains very nicely the difference between the various entry to practice options and how to go about choosing programs.

Your GPA may be a bit of a problem because direct entry MSN programs are very competitive. However, please don't despair because there are many other routes that you might want to take to achieve your goals.

BTW, I am moving this to the pre-nursing student forum to elicit more responses. I encourage you to check out the threads in that forum as well as in the General Student Discussions thread as many of our members have had concerns similar to yours.

Best to you in whatever you decide to do!

Thanks Moogie!
