Hello, this is a thread for any current nursing students at Broward college or those who have recently been accepted. I'm a bit confused on Broward's admission criteria. What classes exactly do they use to calculate the gpa?
You should try and take microbiology before you start program I took it last term to get it out of the way. It's NO joke. That class is not easy and you won't be able to deal with the nursing classes plus that. If you haven't done it then just wait till you finish program to do it. It's a graduation requirement so you don't need it right now.
You can't wait until the end to do it because you need microbiology to start some of the nursing classes. They mentioned that at the orientation that some of the nursing courses require microbiology and they will actually stop you in the middle of the program to take it. I suggest taking it before Nursing School.

False. Even though you need it, you can technically take it during the program. You just can't graduate without it. I took it during my Peds rotation and am now in Ortho. They never stopped me. I took it upon myself to take it at that time. Yes, some classes may be harder to grasp without micro, but I passed all my classes without it. :)
Thank you!! maybe i can cram it somewhere in the program....Maybe I can take it after the program. I want to finish my AA in Jan 2015 and start the nursing program in August. Can you give me a sample of what nursing process 1 is like? I hear people saying it's hard. Any comment? :) I wish I could get a sample or idea of what I am getting myself into. I'm in the medical field now so I know a few things already regarding diseases and disorders. Thanks for the advice btw.

Definitely take Micro before you start the program! You don't need an extra load on your shoulders during the program.

The RN department has changed thier requirements. The Deans will stop you if you do not have Humanities, Social/Behavoiral, and Micro done by the time you finish Peds, OB and Psych. They will not let you move on to the last three classes. It may have been that way when you started the program, but it is no longer that way. Yes, you took it during peds, which is one of the three before they stop you. If you do not have those courses done, you will be stopped and cannot finish HA II, HA III or trends. Just an FYI.

I have. I don't recommend it. Midterm lab was during a clinical day and was a hassle rescheduling my clinical day.
Micro is a full semester with lab. It's a prerequisite and you need special permission to take nursing with micro, from the nursing department.
