New thread started for all those applying for / accepted to / attending Broward College January 2011. Chime in, let us know how you're doing!
When we went to Orientation, and I believe you had to apply for online or select something different on your app....They only have I think 24 seats and there were people there that day that were doing online. From what I heard everything except clinical days is online. And you are based out of Central Campus. That's what we were told at orientation. Hope this helps a bit! :)
The online program is something you have to have applied to. It isn't a choice. If you were accepted it is to face to face classes unless you checked online on the application. I'm in WPB and I'm wondering about how often classes are also and how often we'd be there on campus and how often we can work outside of school. Not to mention...what is the total cost for Nursing if you have all of the pre reqs done? :)

i did check the online box indicating that i would like to do the online program. however my status shows face to face. i read through some of the threads and ppl are saying north campus is the best way to go. it is kind of discouraging but i assume truthful because more than a few students have commented about all the other campuses including the online program.
will u be attending the jan 2011 program as well?

i'm at north now.... so aweome!!! i drive 30min each day, but it's sooooo worth it!
I also wanted to know which books we'll be using, but I was wondering what editions we will need in January, and I think the link you gave may not be for the January class, but for last year. It says the 2010-2011 AY, but I had called BC and spoke to Nursing Admissions and the Bookstore and was told something like they don't get book lists until November. So I'm just not sure that's the right link, and didn't want anyone to possibly go out and buy what possibly may be a wrong edition.:)
The instructor posted it as 2010-2011 book list because those are the books for that school year, regardless of when the college posts the book lists. The nursing dept already knows which books you need because the college, as a whole, will not change an edition in the middle of a school year. New editions on books come out right before the fall semester, so the publishers won't even have new editions out until late summer anyway. The book list for the book store might not be published until November, but the college already knows the books they're going to be using before the school year begins.

I can't really compare North to online- it's really apples and oranges. I have a friend who is doing it and her first semester was way harder than mine. I can't compare accurately, because I didn't take her tests and I have no idea how her tests were, but she is very smart, and has always scored better than me in the pre-reqs, and she was barely passing. I passed with a B. Her teachers have been good and bad, clinical instructors as well, but overall, she likes the program and it got better after that first semester. She does have to go into central campus for testing and she has clinical one day a week.
As far as north being the best, that is what I have always heard, too. But I have never heard from anyone actually comparing north to central or south to see why exactly that is. I have to say, I think they (central) are much harder on you for return demos in process 1 and 2 then north campus was on us. (return demo= a time when you come in and they ask you to perform skills and you have to do them) For us, we had to know all skills they expected of us, but they would pick some randomly for us to actually do. At central, I had a friend (not the online one, a different one who was going face to face) who had to do all of them and she ended up running out of time and failed. But that's the only thing I had heard. I'm starting ortho/neuro now and I have had a great time at north campus so far. But you know, you have to figure out what's best for you. If its better for you to go to south because of the distance, then do it. Many people have gone to south, passed the classes, graduated and became RNs, so it can be done!!
Good luck
thanks for the info, i really appreciate that. i did print out the booklist from the link u provided from the other post. i am reviewing the math calculations and i have already purchased test success for beginning rns. i am planning to purchase fundamental success as well. i hope all goes well for me in the first semester and the entire program, lol... i am a respiratory therapist and i hope that my background can help me out a bit. good luck to u as well.
CONGRATS!! i WAS LOOKING THROUGH THE THREAD TO SEE IF U GOT ACCEPTED. i AM GLAD U DID. i AM CONTEMPLATING THE SAME AS WELL, RATHER ONLINE/FACE TO FACE. AGAIN CONGRATS:yelclap::w00t::clpty:
Thank you so much, I appreciate it! Hope we can all get some good input on campuses and online vs face to face.

Thank you for all of this information! It's so helpful to hear student's personal experiences. I had registered for the North campus when I applied so I guess I have to stick with that, but it sounds like a good choice anyway. Do you have any recommendations of what to brush up on or any kinds of books we can start reading that will be helpful for our first semester?
