British Citizen, Want to Take LPN Course at "Brooklyn Adult Learning Center"

Published

Hi all,

I am a British citizen and have lived in New York for the past 10 years. First on an F1 (student) visa and now on a work visa that expires in 2013.

I want to apply to the LPN course at the Brooklyn Adult Learning Center but obviously I do not have a green card or citizenship.

There is a $35 to apply for the prerequisite test but I don't want to take it if they will turn me down at the interview because of my immigration status.

The deadline for the test application is January 15th so appreciate your responses!

Thanks much and happy weekend!

Only the school you wish to attend could answer this question.

Do know that CUNY nursing programs require one to furnish proof of American citizenship or proper immigration status before being accepted.

In addition the advice of a good immigration attorney and or INS (Homeland Security Department), will be required as well.

You will need to find out if you will be able to renew your work visa after graduation (and passing the boards), to remain in the USA and work as an LPN. With so many native LPNs in the NYS/NYC area, clinical settings may simply not wish to go through the effort and expense of sponsoring you to remain.

Best of luck

I honestly don't think they will let you start the program. However, CALL THEM and ask before you waste your money testing.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Just be aware that LPN does not meet requirements for immigrant or work visa. If you plan on staying in the US then you need to check out the international forum (under the region tab above)
