:monkeydance: Aloha!
I'm a new member and wanted to say hello.
I also wanted to know if any one knows anything about this new and quite invasive species of dialysis corporations, Libertarius dialysisium, AKA Liberty Dialysis.
All I know is that it is a very new company, and that they have bought out all 3 dialysis units on the Big Island in the last 18 months. They are still in the final phase of taking over my unit, North Hawaii, which has been hospital owned and operated.
I have mixed feelings...On one hand, it seems like these companies (eg fresenius, davita, etc.) make their profit by short-changing the staff and patients. On the other hand, patients and staff should have better support and resources for dialysis-specific problems/needs.
The real bummer is that if it turns out to be a really crappy employer, my options (and my co-workers') will be to change careers or leave the island!
Anyone know this company or had similar experiences? I read the thread about fresenius, and i'm thankful that Liberty has opted to allow us to keep our previous benefits (or so they say...)
Thanks, momo

what's going on over there. sounds like some sort of invasion or something. have you taken a look at this recent thread about a fresenius takeover on your island(s)?

If you do a search - liberty dialysis - you will see that they own dialysis facilities throughout the united states... they use 'ultra pure' water as one of their main statements. I just did a search.
Just did a search 'liberty dialysis' and found out they own facilities all over the united states from california to new york.. and they use 'ultra pure' water

Interesting species according to their website... doesn't sound too bad, actually. At least nice for the patients
As someone who has worked for a major for-profit company in the past (which has now merged with another, of course), my take on this is that they are probably all about the same. What's more important than company philosophy (let's face it, they all want to make $) is your local clinic management - that's what makes or breaks (for the staff) any clinic.
Give it a chance (not that you have much choice, but neither do we in my area where all clinics are owned by one company) - I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Good luck! Let us know what you think about this company.

P.S. Non-profit has its pros and cons as well. For instance, my hospital acute unit is using 15-year-old machines (Fresenius 2008H), and we'll use them 'till they fall apart (or melt accidentally in heat disinfect). Our beds don't even have fitted sheets (and I couldn't make a hospital corner if my life depended on it!)
