Brand New Nurse! No job :(

Published

Hi, I recently graduated with my B.S.N. in December and recieved my Texas R.N. license a week ago. I am currently looking for a job, but it seems that all of the hospitals I've talked with are all looking for nurses. I went to school in Birmingham, so I have no "connections" or "ties" if you will to anyone working as a nurse in the metroplex area. Any suggestions on what I should do?

BTW, I am also beginning to realize that it is just as hard for an inexperienced nurse to find a job as it is a business-man.

Comments/Suggestions Welcome..

What I meant to type was: it seems that all of the hospitals in the area are looking for "experienced Nurses". My apologies...

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

:welcome:

You probably can't find a hospital job because your timing was unfortunate. You missed the boat for the January new grad internships at the local hospitals because you've got to apply for them 2 to 3 months prior. Therefore, someone who wanted to enter a January new grad internship at a hospital would have had to apply in October or November.

Your best bet is to apply for jobs at home health agencies, hospices, nursing homes, rehab centers, and small rehabilitation hospitals. Many of these workplaces are friendly to new grads and will be willing to train you.

Unfortunately, nursing jobs are not recession-proof. You cannot turn your nose up at any job offer in this horrid economy unless you want to remain unemployed. Good luck to you!

aaaw, there has to be one nurse manager somewhere in all of Fort Worth who is willing to hire a new graduate. I'll just keep praying the Lord will open a door somewhere. I really don't want to work in a nursing home or do home health nursing...

Beggars cannot be choosers in a job market that is quickly becoming saturated with a surplus of new grads. There are over 20 nursing programs in and around the DFW area, and they all churn out masses of new nurses every few months. The job market cannot absorb all of these people in an economy that is contracting rather than expanding.

If you still wish to hold out for a nursing position at a major hospital, be aware that the next new grad programs will start in July.

Hi! I am no longer jobless. I got hired as an RN ( no internship required). I start in 1 week and I've already signed the paperwork! So even though I got my license in January and have no experience, I still have a job. All I can say is the Lord is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all we could ever imagine or think. If you're looking for a job: PRAY. I got a job against ALL odds because of the Lords provisions..

Oh yea, I work in a hospital. No nursing homes, home health ect... A job working night shift on a unit in a hospital. God is good!

All praises be to the Lord! Congrats! I am looking to move to the DFW area as well and I have less than of a year experience in a non-clincial setting. I have applied to all the new grad programs but I would like to have a backup plan. May I ask, where did you apply?

Congrats I am so happy for you. My dream/goal is to work as an ER nurse someday. Perhaps once I finish school I will be posting my story being hope to others.
