I am in shock right now! I just found out that my NRN 101 books are over $900!!! This is on top of the required PDA and Littmann stethescope that I still have to get too. Of course they upgraded to some mandatory new editions so buying used on-campus is out of the question. Has anybody out there found a store/website that sells newer edition used nursing textbooks? They haven't even finished the final book list yet and we are required to have them by Jan. 5th so eBay won't work either (cutting it too close on shipping time). Please share where you get your books!!!

There was another thread in the last couple days about this topic. Should be in the first couple of pages.

I agree half.com is pretty good. I'm in the same boat. My first quarter I payed 800 and SUPRISINGLY this quarter I'm only paying 500$, how funny is it that I think only 500$ is cheap?
I should have bought from half.com instead I got from barnesandnobles.com and I could have saved about 40$ more...Oh well live and learn!

Half.com can be great when your transaction proceeds smoothly, however, if something goes wrong you have very little recourse.
Back in October I purchased a med-surg textbook from a seller on half.com. They sent me the wrong book so I was forced to purchase at the college bookstore because I didn't have time to wait for the correct book to be shipped. I requested a refund from the seller and sent the book I received back to him (he agreed to a refund of the purchase price but refused to refund shipping - so I was out S&H on both the book I wanted and the one I had to ship back to them). I had paid 91.45 + 3.99 shipping. Several weeks and several emails later I was refunded 79.08! So now I'm out roughly $20.00 for a book that I never received! I have emailed the seller and opened a claim with half.com, but they closed the claim when he refunded the WRONG amount. I will never use half.com again because there is really no protection if anything goes wrong. I'll pay a bit more for my books at a commercial site, but I'll never have to deal with this aggravation again.

I am very fortunate, my books are a part of my tuition. Thank God! I do not know what I would do. I just got laid-off from my job and God is so good I am getting another job. I am waiting for the supervisor to call to tell me when to start this one. I am blessed!

i bought all of my textbooks direct from the publishers websites and used coupon codes. I saved $500- also borders had several of my textbooks and free shipping plus I found 30% off coupons. I get my coupon codes from retailmenot.com My school had all the books from 3 publishers,
lww.com, mosby, and I forget the other but I received all the books within 3 days.

I never bought any of my books from the bookstore (except one lab book that I purchased incorrectly - but that was my error totally from being rushed in writing down ISBNs)
Definitely buy your books online. I just check four or five sites. Ebay is the best pricewise, but its hard b/c they dont always go by ISBN numbers, so you cant ever be sure you're getting the right book/edition. I buy through Books a Million, Amazon, Half.com, and I shop it around the net. I paid almost half the price the bookstore sells for, last semester.

We spent a fortune on 1st semester books as well, but I just got my books for second semester and the grand total was just over $200. Many of the books we got first semester are books that we'll use throughout, so there were only a few specialty books needed for next semester.
I've always done really well with half.com and amazon. Never had any trouble and usually spend much less than at the bookstore.

I recently did my first transactions on ebay and ran into similar problems. I never received the item I paid for and attempted to resolve the issue with the seller. The seller ignored my communications so I started a claim through paypal and ebay. The seller lied about sending me the item and communicating with me. Accused me of receiving the item when in fact I did not. This person sells the same item continuously and puts in their ad that they aren't responsible for the item being received by the buyer. I've decided that ebay buying is too risky for me. Everything is fine when the transaction goes as planned, but when you run into a problem the seller has your money.

I just found mine on craigslist for $50. Although I do have 2 more things to buy, I easily saved over $100 so far.
The only thing in one of the books is her name on the inside corner. I REALLY lucked out!!!
