Hello. I am graduating from Queens College next semester so I will have a 4 year degree but I am also applying to BMCC for spring 2020 to get into their evening nursing program. Currently, I have taken A&P1 at Queensborough CC using an e-permit and next semester, I will do the same for A&P 2 since I want both classes to be taken at the same college. Some classes, such as Psychology, Sociology & English that I have taken at Queens College will fulfill the requirements for the other courses.

Has anyone ever had any issues with getting into the BMCC nursing program with per-requisites taken at other CUNY schools?

Hi @Knights143, no. I transferred some pre-reqs from LaGuardia and they had no issues with it. The only class you can’t transfer in is Math 104, that needs to be taken at BMCC. So, if you are planning to apply for the night program, you can transfer in the spring and take that class as well as the rest of the pre-reqs. needed (micro, developmental psychology which your sociology class will probably fulfill) for the night program in addition to the main 4 pre-reqs and then submit your application for the Fall 2020 evening program.

Hope that helped! 😀

@Knights143 also, since you will already have a Bacc degree, CUNY does offer Accelerated Nursing degrees for anyone that has a non-related bachelors degree already, might be a better option for you..

Since you'll already have a four year degree, it serves no purpose getting an ADN now that NYS has passed the "BSN in Ten" requirement.  You are far better off just going for a second degree/accelerated RN program and be done with things.

On average both an ADN and second degree program would still have you taking same prerequisites (missing science, math and whatever other classes), and run same length of time  (about two years give or take). Only difference is at end of things one will leave you with the coveted and required BSN, the other with an ADN degree which may prove of limited use in current NYC nurse employment market.

Would only recommend anyone take the ADN to bridge program BSN route is if they cannot get into a second degree program. That or they failed out/were removed from an accelerated program but found an associate degree school that would take them on. Otherwise it just doesn't make sense financially nor time wise.

Many years ago now when NYC hospitals hired ADN nurses then things were different, but that ship has largely sailed.

Thank you! You both have given me very valuable advice and I will definitely take the accelerated BSN into consideration.
