Binghamton BAT 2021-2022

Published

Hey everyone! Just starting a thread for this cycle's BAT/ABSN program at Binghamton that's starting next Summer 2021. I've just submitted the SUNY transfer app, but holding off on submitting the actual BAT app for a little while longer. Hoping we can use this thread to talk about the program and post questions like years prior! The deadline isn't until November so it's still way early, but having the thread ready to go doesn't hurt. I'm also applying to Buffalo and Brockport so I'll likely be active in those threads as well! ?

Successfully submitted my application holy stress... Admissions decisions will be sent out between Jan-Feb. Good luck everyone!!

Hi guys!

I'm still a bit confused about the Composition 1 and 2. It says on the site: "Note: Binghamton University's General Education requirements are waived for students who have previously earned a bachelor's degree."

I already graduated with another bachelor degree. Does this mean Comp 1 and 2 are going to be waived since they're considered general education?

No, Binghamton has other general education requirements such as a History class, Art class, etc, that their students have to take in order to get a Bachelors. For the composition 1 and 2 courses, Decker has its own requirements we need to meet. Your best bet would be to contact the office so that they can evaluate to see if the English courses you took will fulfill their requirements. I took 4 English courses but only 1 was counted towards the Nursing pre-req so I’m taking another course approved by them this semester. They have very specific requirements that must be met so make sure you contact them asap so you can register for the course in the Spring or Winter if you need to!

Welcome to the party! ?  You should be getting an email from undergrad admissions giving you your user ID and a link for you to set up your status checker portal. I'm sure it'll be coming soon, but you could always reach out to admissions if you still have concerns. My email didn't come until nearly a month and a half after I submitted my transfer app, but that's because I did it super early and they didn't even start downloading apps until late September! On that status checker portal is where you upload all the additional documents and where you can see what transcripts they've received so far.

Thank you! I appreciate it

Hi y’all. Sometimes I find myself looking back at these forms remembering the excitement of being in the same spot as you guys 2 years ago haha. I’m a bat graduate so if anyone has any questions don’t hesitate to reach out to me!

Hi! thanks for popping in and congrats on graduating. No pressure to respond but I was wondering if you had any insight for students coming from out of state. If accepted I would be coming from California and would probably not have a car, do you think that would be a problem (esp. when it comes to clinical?). Also, what are some good areas/neighborhoods off campus for living? Thanks!

Can’t speak on the neighborhoods too much as I was only there for the year. But you should be fine without a car. Many people didn’t but you’ll always have someone in your clinical group to carpool with, and by the time Spring comes and you get placed for your clinical, you can let them know about your means of transportation so they don’t place you too far!

Oh awesome! I love when grads come back to these forums to spread their wisdom haha. How was your experience with the Spring clinical for NURS 471? I was told you could even request sites further upstate or downstate in the NYC area and that you really only needed to come back to campus once a month-ish. Was this true in your experience and did anyone successfully get placed further outside the general Binghamton area such as NYC?

I enjoyed my 471 in the Spring. If it’s still the same thing, around November or later a form gets filled out where you designate what specialities/hospitals/preference to stay local and they’ll try their best to match you with accordingly. I forgot how they went about it but I had some friends do their clinical down in nyc and others got approved to do clinical at a selected hospital after approval. In those cases where you go further out, there is a less restrictive cap on your weekly hours so you can get more done during that time because you are traveling further away. But yeah, those who did that had to come up because there were some days we had to be present for a certain lecture.

Hey guys!

it says that personal statements are optional. I was wondering if any of your guys submitted one? Also, I'm still waiting for the status checker portal from bing. If I submit exactly Nov 15 will that be considered late?

How did you send a personal statement? I didn’t see the option to send one ? my status checker info from bing took about 5-7 to get from Bing!

"Neither a personal statement nor a letter of recommendation are required, but may be submitted via the Status Checker if the applicant chooses to do so." - this is from the website

Did anyone try sending in a personal statement?
