Hi everyone! I was just hired for a position on a med/surg telemetry floor. I have taken ACLS and I currently work on a long-term acute care floor where I have to read tele strips but I feel like I need a better foundation. I recently bought a book on amazon but was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions that would be helpful! Thank you!

Well, the only thing I have to go on is how I studied for ACLS. I went on youtube, no joke, and typed in "learning EKG strips" and then filtered for the videos with the most views. Then watched and learned. I personally do better with hands on learning and would have preferred to have sat down with a paramedic or somebody to teach me in person, but if you learn from videos, youtube has a TON of EKG strip learning material out there that's totally legit.

It takes practice to get comfortable. I found picking the brains of more experienced nurses and hearing the reasoning behind their interpretation to be the best way to learn.

Congratulations on your new position. Telemetry interpretation is one-helluva-skill.
Your orientation should include in-depth telemetry interpretation. THAT is where your previous skills will make you ahead of the game.
Relax.. learn in orientation.
Best wishes in your new position.
