Best RN schools in the Columbus Area?

Published

Hello~

I live in Columbus OH and want to get some feedback on the best RN schools for associates degree in the area. I am currently attending CSCC. I can't believe they only accept applications once a year and that just places you on a waiting list... JEEZE! SO I am now considering COTC (dread the drive) and the School in Marion. Any feedback on these schools and any new ones to consider would be GREATLY appreciated.:heartbeat:redbeathe:heartbeat

"I can't believe they only accept applications once a year and that just places you on a waiting list... "

Hi! JenaBeryy,

You said you're currently attending CSCC, do you mean the pre-req course?

And about that "waiting list" thing, do you mean after you've completed your pre-req course you still have to wait for the actual major?

According to your info, you said they accept the applications once a year, can't you just wait for it? (I've heard the admission to the actual major occurs in every Jan) So it shouldn't be longer than one year I guess. Or if I'm wrong you can explain it for me.

Anyhow, good luck!

Kattika

Hi Kattika~

I have an appointment with an adviser next week. However I do know they only accept application once a year. I will miss the application this upcoming year (Jan 2010) because I will be taking pre-req during winter quarter. This leaves me done w/ pre-reqs in the spring and waiting 3 quarters to submit an application in Jan 2011. I'm not into waiting that long because once I submit I have heard you are on a waiting list. This could place me starting as late as 2012. NO WAY! COTC accepts applications 4 times a year. It looks like that's my only option.

I'll post more once I meet w/ an adviser to clarify a few things.

I'm currently going to school at Marion Tech, where I started last fall. But be prepared for a long waiting list. I was on it for almost 2 years. I think it was well worth the wait the. NCLEX pass rate is around 99%.

Thanks Carrie~ I've heard a lo of great things about Marion Tech. A 2 year wait!!! ahhh!

Specializes in PICU.

I'm at chamberlain in cbus and graduate in oct. When i started i didn't have to spend any time on the wait list. expensive, but worth not waiting to me

Hi, JenaBerry

Please don't forget to let me know once you've discussed with your CSCC advisor. I'd like to know some of the details, too.

Thank you and good luck!

Well my advising appointment at CSCC didn't go well.:o I told her I have a lot of questions about the nursing program. She cut me off immediately, told me my walk-in appointment isn't the same as a regular appointment and she will tell me what I need to take.

SOOooo I scheduled another appointment and the soonest I could get in was August. I did find out they accept applications each year in January, first come first serve for those who qaulify. You start in fall and spring. If you submit an application this January, you will start either Fall 2010 or spring 2011. I'm not sure how many students they except.

sigh

Hi, Jenaberry

Thanks for reply and sorry to hear that your first appointment didn't go well. But August... that is ok! Just a few days away, please be patient. Once you get an oppotunity to ask, that'll be YOUR time to digging out whatever details you need to know! :nmbrn:

(And again... I'll look forward to hearing from you :heartbeat , cheers!)

Hi Kattika~

I promise to let you know how my appointment goes!

Are you planning on going to CSCC or are you considering another school? I have an advising appointment at COTC in Newark this friday. Newark is about 40 minutes from Columbus, but they accept applications a few times a year.

Hi! JenaBerry

Yes, I am planing to get my degree whether ADN or BSN. I just wanna make sure the school I'll choose has really been accredited, that's my top priority. Next, I don't really put the tution fee as the important consideration 'cause i believe education is investment, but I can't deny it DOSE affect my wallet! So, the cheaper, the better still. :roll

Have you ever calculated the whole program tution fee from which school you want to attend? According to my state right now, I'm currently away from the U.S. so the only way I can kill the time is to search through the sites! That's why I asked you to let me know whenever or wherever you've committed any advising appointment. I'd go through out around if I was there LOL

The point that I talk about the tution fee is that I don't wanna believe my calculation skills of two of the institutions, Capital University and Otterbein College!!! I tried to add the expenses as much as I can each school program that I'm interested in to overall look if I can cover it in cash. But... am I wrong that my calculation outcomes of the BSN at the Capital university and Otterbein college are over $100k?

Well, I'll list my OVER calculations here of some schools I've been searching so far, and please correct me if I'm wrong. Anyone who has experiences is welcome. (*I added every littlest expense I can possibly find through their websites)

Chamberlain College of Nursing : ADN $50,000 - BSN $73,000

Mount Carmel College of Nursing : BSN $57,000

The Ohio State University : BSN $45,000

Capital University : BSN $127,000

Hondros College : ADN $23,000

Columbus State Community College : ADN $13,400

Otterbein College : BSN $122,000

P.S. In South East Asia now is hot like hell but showering rain makes everyday wonderful. Good luck everyone.

i am set to graduate from columbus state in a few short months. i can tell you that it is a good school, provide you put your nose to the grindstone, study, and keep up with readings. if you don't put the hard work in, you will not make it through the program. i would not want to go to any other school for an adn nor would i want to pay the high tuition rates of other schools.

as far as advising goes. you do not need to talk to an advisor!! go to the cscc nursing website, all information is on there. application period, requirements, and curriculum plan. read the requirements and follow them. keep up to date on application periods and apply the day it open the first minutes it opens up. i never talked to an advisor before i applied!!
