I need advice from current NPs as to which RN specialty is best to prepare you to become an NP? I am in nursing school now an I am going to try to get a job as a CNA at one of the nearby hospitals. Once I am in the door, I want to try to get into the unit that I will want to work in as a RN.
Any opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

It depends. What kind of NP d you want to be?
Well, my goal is to become dual certified as a FNP and ACNP because I would like to work in orthopedic surgery, but don't want to be limited to only adults.
For ACNP I think most have ICU experience. If you want to do OR I'd suggest getting a RNFA. I got a bulletin from Advance that said Duke University is going to pioneer the 1st ortho NP specialty certification program.
That would be fantastic if Duke had an Ortho NP program, especially considering I live about an hour away! My plan was to get into the OR as soon as possible. Fortunately, one of the better hospitals in the area has a terrific new grad program and they have an OR program for new grads as well. It is good to hear that e RNFA path is a good one for me to take, since that was my #1 choice!
Thanks for the input.
