I plan on taking two nursing pre-req's over the summer. What do you think are the best pre-req's to take over an 8-week period? I was also considering taking the courses online if they were available. I'd appreciate your feedback, thank you! :redpinkhe

What are the required nursing pre-reqs? Have you taken anything yet?

English, psychology, nutrition....

No, sadly I have not taken any courses yet. That's why I'm excited to be back in school. My required pre-req's are:

A&P1, English Comp 1, Math 118-algebra, English Comp 2, A&P2, Nutrition, Microbiology, Sociology, Applied Computer technology, Gen elective, Humanities elective.

Well, since you haven't taken any classes yet I would suggest taking the non science classes during the summer. I would say maybe English comp 1, computer tech, or maybe the elective. Algebra would be a good one to go ahead and get out of the way too. I would suggest taking the science classes during the regular semester. I wouldn't recommend taking the science classes in the summer if you have to, especially if you work, have kids, etc. Even if you don't have those extra things in your life, those classes are more difficult and will require lots of study time. I wish you the best of luck!!

English Comp will be a lot of papers due over that 8 wk summer course. Unless you want to be doing a lot of writing slammed into that 8 wks, I'd personally forego any of the English classes.

Depending on your math skills, math might be doable over the summer.

Don't forget, all those courses you listed might not be available over the summer. I know with my school, summer courses are limited and does not encompass all classes. Take a look at what your school offers over the summer (and what classes fit into your schedule, don't know if you have kids, work etc)

I'd go with

Sociology

computer Tech

Gen elective

humanities

I definatly would NOT do any sciences (A&P I or II, micro, nutrition etc)

I'm taking English Comp 1 and Psyc. Haven't signed up yet but after reading the post about all the papers that will be due, I might change my mind.

Save Sociology for the winter term if you are planning on having a winter term. As far as the summer goes, I agree with everyone else in that since this is your first semester take it easy. School is something that you have to ease into. I only took 10 credits my first semester of college (then again I had just gotten back from my last deployment in the military and moved cross country), but that easy load of intro classes (into Bio for science majors, intro to chem and EN101) gave me alot of confidance. The next semester I took on 14 credits (including Micro and Gen Chem) and then A&P I&II in the summer(I wanted to finish all the sciences before I submitted my application so that the committee knew what I could do), the whole while keeping a 4.0.

If I would have taken a large load my first semester I would have never been able to relearn how to study and I certainly would not have done so well. That would have snowballed and I would be sitting on a 3.0 instead of a 4.0 right now.

Start easy, allow your self time to adjust and finish strong.

If you can swing it, take an intro Biology course as your general elective and do it this summer, you wont be able to do it online (well maybe you can but its not likely) but it will really help you lay a foundation for Nutrition, A&P and Micro. Good luck!!!

You'll have alot of papers to do no matter when you take EN101, (English Comp 1, w/e) and if you are doing them all at one you dont have to worry about a paper being due the same day as a test (well I am assuming that you do things the honor student way and wait until the last second).

Thank you so much for your comments! So far, I think I might go with math 118 and applied computer tech. I feel fortunate to start taking classes in the summer, because I can ease myself back into the groove while still balancing my life with work and my family. I had the feeling that it would be best to take my science courses at the campus instead of online. Easier access to lab, tutor and hopefully, a study group. Thanks again!! :redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe

I'd go with math and get that bad boy out of the way.

not all Eng 1 have papers... my eng 1 didnt have ONE paper..it was all vocabulary, reading, spelling..ect

Eng 2 is usually the one with all the papers... which is what im taking right now..and I have 8 papers due.
