best places to work as a new grad in phoenix metro area

Published

In your opinion, what are the best places to work as a new grad in the valley?

Why do you like it so much?

What are pay/benefits/atmosphere like?

No Opinions??? I'm kind of interested in this topic also, even though it doesn't really pertain to me just yet :-)

Specializes in NICU.

Which specialty? Which area of the valley?

If you can narrow it down some, we will be able to provide some direction as to which hospitals would meet your needs.

In general, as a new grad, I would look at the major teaching hospitals in the valley (i.e. St. Joes, Good Sam, Maricopa Medical Center, etc, etc), as they will have the best orientation programs for new grads. The smaller hospitals aren't as well suited for new grads because their orientation programs aren't as extensive ...... which is not to say they are bad hospitals, it just means they don't have the educational resources that the teaching facilities have.

I am a new grad and I started at Banner Good Sam on the transplant m/s floor this past June. I LOVE IT!! They have a great new grad orientation program. Everyone has treated me great so far. The orientation on the floor is very individualized and I have not felt lost or alone yet. Great teamwork.

I started out at $26.50/hr. 20percent night shift differential. Overtime is double pay.

I have not had any clinical experience at any of the other hospitals in the valley but I am very pleased with Good Sam and would recommend the hospital to others!!

Specializes in Med/Surg, Tele, ER, Military.

I will be graduating in December..and already have a job lined up @ the VA hospital in Phoenix. I worked there as both an NA and Extern and just loved it. It is also a teaching hospital plus offer excellent gov't benefits. You can't beat 5 weeks paid vacation + $30,000 scholarships for education + pension if u stay there long enough...

Pay is approx. :

$28/hr with a BSN

15% Night Differential

25% Weekend Differential

Time and a half Overtime

And Double Pay for Holidays

Cant wait!!! :yeah:

I am interested in any feedback on hospitals in the Phoenix area also. I graduate in December with an ADN. Are there hospitals that are more geared toward BSNs over ADNs? I am looking to start on a Med-Surg floor or Med-Tele floor. Area of town isn't a big concern of mine at this point. I would be willing to drive to a hospital that has a great new grad program that doesn't expect you to take 6 or 7 patients right away. Unfortunately I see that happening with some new grads where I work. After one week on the floor they are being pushed out with a level patient load. Thanks for any input!

If you want a great new grad program and the area of town isn't a big concern, then I would definitely check out St. Joes.

I work at JCL they have an awesome new grad program and the pay is highly competitive. Benefits are some of the best in the valley and they offer a tution payback as well as tution for continuing your education. Best of luck and congrats

I apologize, but I'm relatively new to the Phoenix area. I've only been here for about a year. What's JCL?

John C. Lincoln. Very reputable hospital here in the valley.

I dont know I am looking for places to apply to as well. I was looking at Promise and Maryvale hospital. I did a clinical rotation at both hospitals and I loved it! They do not have very good reputations though but Maryvale does not have tuition reimbursement and that is important to me. Once I am done with school in December I do plan to relocate to Maricopa Arizona so I dont want to travel to far west.

Anyone have opinions on MAYO?
