Best Nursing Shoes?

Published

Hello everyone. I am now in my 3rd semester of my LPN program. Our clinicals are from 7-3 twice a week so I am on my feet a lot more than last semester. I am really feeling the different in my feet. My friend suggested a pair of Spring Step clogs from Life Uniform? I certainly can't afford the Dansko clogs and was told that the Nike Shox make your feet too hot. Let me know what you recommend.

I've tried numerous "nursing shoes",the best were some "clinic shoes" that were ugly as sin and aren't made anymore. Sorry. Other than that I get tennies that are made specifically for nurses. Ree bok or Red Cross have some. They are cleaner, whiter looking than regular sneakers,I don't know if there are specific types shoes that you have to wear for clinicals though.

I thought I would love the danskins but they were way expensive and about as comfortable as the box they came in. Ack!

Maybe it was just me.

I don't think there are really "best" nursing shoes. Its more like what you feel comfortable in. I wear crocs and love them. I've worn Nike tennis shoes and my feet hurt.

My favorite all-time shoes if you are going to be on your feet a lot are New Balance; granted, they are pretty expensive but will last you at least a couple years. Nike is also good...Nike Air or cross trainers...but in my humble opinion, I like New Balance the best.

When I was in my LPN clinicals the only required shoes were NurseMates. Oh how I hated them; they pinched my toes and had no arch support whatsoever. I don't know who invented them, but I bet whoever it was had never spent a day on their feet!

Blessings, Michelle

I bought white New Balance tennis shoes and my feet have been aching so bad. All of my gym shoes are from New Balance and usually provide great support. However, I have never had to wear them for seven or eight hours at a time. I also have gained quite a bit of weight and that just adds more pressure on your feet. I am going to try the Spring Step and see how that goes. They are supposed to conform to your feet. The only requirement for our clinicals is white shoes. Some people don't even do that and get by. The RN program starts December 1st (two weeks after the LPN program ends.) I am going to start working so I will need a good pair of shoes anyway.

My strong suggestion is to avoid the Shox (see the post I started about it earlier this week.) They have no cushion in the heels. They were awful to stand in for 12 hours. I now have Asics and so far, so good. Seems like everyone has an opinion and it just depends on your feet, posture etc. Good luck.

I have not tried these but plan on getting them once I start my clinicals for nursing school. They are called Rockports. My mother swore by them when she was working in airport for airline. She was on her feet all day and said they were great. She did alot of walking and standing. I remember her telling me that once she washed them (the rockports) and wore a different pair of shoes until the Rockports dried and she came home barely able to walk in her regular sneakers. She said after that she would wear them wet if that meant she would go without them. :wink2: Here is the website: http://www.rockport.com/ I plan on trying the "Rockport Sydney Waterproof Work Shoe" all of the shoes are pricey but according to my mother worth every penny. So, I figure that and the support hoes should do the trick. :wink2: They aren't that pretty but looks don't matter if it works. They also have mens and womens shoes and the "Rockport DMX Max Sandy Walking Shoe" would be my second choice.

Hope this helps.
