Fellow nurses and nursing school students,

I will be starting Nursing School August 2017, and I am in the market for a new laptop. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions or recommendations (tablet, laptop, Ipad etc...). My personal preference is Lenovo, but I am open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks!

Laptop. Just make sure all the software they are going to want to give you will work with your os. I ran into problems when I had a Mac, but Im sure things have changed

Thanks! I'm not a huge fan of Mac at all, so I can see how you ran into problems with that.

I know you said that you're not a Mac fan, but hear me out!

I used to be a PC user for YEARS and swore up and down I would never be a Mac user. But I finally broke down and bought one when I graduated high school and I will NEVER go back to a PC. I've always had nothing but problems with PCs and I have not once had a single problem with my Mac. It's interface is really easy to use once you get used to it. It only took me a few days, and it's pretty similar to a PC in terms of usage in my opinion. I start nursing school in August as well and I can't wait to start using my Mac in class. I know its a little bit more on the pricier side, but its a really good investment! Good luck to you in August!

Im with @cerebellam on this. I've used PC all through high school and even first year of nursing school. Nobody in my family is a fan of Macs and my dad absolutely hated them. However, after a full year of seeing 99.9% of students in my class using one, I finally caved and got a Mac Air with the student discount. I personally have never encountered any problems with the Mac since I've had it. I remember that first year of nursing school with my PC, I was always at IT trying to figure out wifi and Norton security issues with them.

But like cerebellam mentioned, the interface is quite easy to use once you get used to it and I absolutely love my Mac. Its been very easy to use with all my nursing classes, especially when we had to download HESI/NCLEX prep programs via CD, downloading things with Evolve, and the overall design of it as well. All done with nursing school now and I'm so glad I made this purchase. I don't think you'll regret making this investment on the Mac!

Bought a used Mac for my last two years of nursing school. I had some hurdles due to it being a Mac, but totally worth it. And I paid LESS because I got it used. Still using same computer now.

The only important thing is what That Guy said... make sure it's compatible with your school required software. That's it!

Although I'm a PC person myself.... it's all about what you feel most comfortable with. Look up reviews about companies, laptop models, etc. Don't get the cheapest version (the minimum hardware), you'll kick yourself in the butt later for it. I like PC's because there is more customization for the techies, more programs available to it, easy to link up with all my other technological gadgets... but it's whatever your preference is! No right or wrongs here.

Never had a problem with my MacBook not being able to run any Windows program because I use Bootcamp.  I don't like Windows because of all the bloatware and bugs.
