Curious to know what you think the best hospitals in Florida are to work for?
Things to take into consideration are pay :chuckle , working conditions (are shifts pretty much filled, or do you always run short, patient ratio, support if you want to continue your education...., opportunities for learning (things that would come into the hospital that you have rarely seen), etc.
I have a special interest in the hospitals in the Tampa area, but all hospitals would be appreciated. Please list why you picked the hospital you did too.
Thanks,
Lmo

I think most hospitals in Florida have a significant number of openings for RNs. If you read any of the nursig related magazines, Florida is a meca for nursing jobs. The area you chose to live and work in obviously needs to meet what you expect (climate, community, employment, schools, recreation, etc). I think Florida has much to offer people if they can deal with the climate and the huge retirement population.
Tampa has several good hospitals and they are consistently looking for good nurses. I would recommend that you continue to explore the Tampa area and I am sure one of the nurses that live in Tampa or St. Pete will post to your message soon.

I live just a little bit south of Tampa in Bradenton (just north of Sarasota). It is an area that is really growing. A hospital to look into is Sarasota Memorial Hospital...http://www.smh.com. It is a growing hospital and one I hope to work in when I finish.
I stayed in Bradenton last spring when I visited Florida to check out the Tampa area. I liked the area, but wished it were just a little closer to Tampa....it's not that far away.....but still.....
I liked Sarasota.....especially by the marina where they have sculptures along the grass. I remember the big picture frame, and I stood in the middle and had my hubby take a picture....it's neat looking.
Do you know much about Manatee Community College and it's LPN to RN program?

I'd go with a Magnet facility. Here's the link:

I graduated from MCC's LPN to RN program. It was a great program and I learned a great deal from it. Of course, with any LPN-RN program, the LPN who is the RN student needs to seek out their own learning activities. I found the program focused more on the basic students and kind of let the LPN to RN students fend for themselves. However, I did like the program and would recommend it. I graduated in May of 2000.
Hey Pat, I live right across the street from MCC, although when you attended I had not yet moved here yet.

Actually the weather (even though we are only an hour south) is actually better than Tampa. Many times, there are storms going through Tampa, and not a drop falls in Bradenton where the sky remains clear.
As I am trying to go straight into the RN program, not LPN to RN like you, Lmo, the school has a good reputation. They start accepting applications either the end of December, beginning of January. check out the website for more info: http://www.mccfl.edu and go to Academics and then to Departments.
In reference to Magnet hospitals as mentioned above, Sarasota Memorial Hospital, I believe is a magnet hospital.

I am moving to Bradenton after I finish RN school (LPN-RN) next August. I am going to be looking into SMH as well. :)
For me, I would rather live in Bradenton. I will be close enough to go where I want to for the day but not have to put up with "big city" life (like Tampa).
