Hi. My S. O. and I are planning to finish our BSNs and do travel nursing together. This won't be for a while but he does like to plan ahead! I know the economy may change by then, but wondering .....do travel nurses always get the rental stipend...even if they are with a spouse? For instance, we would want to live together wherever we go, so does one of us get to bank the individual rental stipend? What is the norm for daily meal allowance, cell phone allowance etc? I know in the older days traveling nursing was a goldmine and not so much now. What should I expect...as well as sign on bonuses, etc......thanks, any info would be valued.

I typically get about $135/month cell phone allowence. I know there are others that get much more than that.
thank you! Anyone else?

Just worked with two nurses who travel together. They were working for Cross Country & had a deal with them where they shared a two bedroom apt. & each received half the housing allowance. I have also know travel buddies where one took the apt. & the other took the housing allowance then split it with the nurse who had the apt.

You can live with your significant other on a travel assignment- for both of you to get the housing allowance, you must BOTH have a tax home. If both of you have it, then you can easily share take the housing given to one and split the others' stipend when traveling to the same location.
To find out the maximum meal/housing allowance, look up IRS Publication 1542 (Per Diem rates) as it applies to your location. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p1542.pdf
I've never heard of cell phone allowance either, but my company gets 25% off Verizon
thank you guys! (gals)
