The best way to know if you have learned the content or understand a theory being taught, is to try to teach it or explain it to someone else. This person can be a fellow student/boyfriend/spouse/friend/sibling/child, or you can say it out loud to an empty room. If you cannot articulate a chemistry formula, describe how a medicine works in the body's system, or a theory of nursing practice, then you don't have a grasp of what you are studying. Even if it is something simple; for instance the steps required by standard practice to place a PICC line. If you can demonstrate it to another person and can articulate the proper steps in order, then you have learned the material.
