Bay Area Burn Nursing

Published

i'm a new grad in a masters entry program at the university of iowa looking to relocate to the bay area. i've developed an intense love of burn nursing during my internship on our burn unit, but have had no luck finding work as a new grad out there. so i'm thinking about sticking around iowa city to work for a year as a burn nurse and then relocating.

does anybody know what the bay area burn units usually require in terms of experience level?? is a year enough to get hired?? any advice??

thanks!!

Have you tried Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, Childrens Hospital in Oakland or San Franciaco? UC Davis Med Center near Sacramento also has a good burn unit. California has the biggest nurse staffing need and highest paying jobs, but also the highest cost of living. The Sacramento area is more affordable than the Bay Area.:twocents:

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center has a great burn unit, and will take new grads through their critical care training program, however, they're not doing a training this year. I'm sure a year or so of experience would be a great foot in the door for employment there.

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose has a really good burn unit, that's where all our local burn pts go. Another place is in Fresno, can't remember the name of the facility.

I do believe that UC Irvine has a burn unit on Southern California in Orange County, and County USC in LA.
