Hi,
I'm trying to apply at Barnes-Jewish. I am on the waiting list at the community colleges, but I've decided to apply at Barnes because the waiting list is over a year or more at the community colleges...and then it takes two years from the date of acceptance to complete the degree. I have all of the pre-reqs required for Barnes, except Intermediate Algebra, because SLCC didn't require it. Does anyone know if I have to have Intermediate Algebra before I can get accepted into Barnes? I haven't even taken the test yet, but I am so anxious and wondering if I am going to get accepted. Does anyone know if they are very strict when it comes to deciding which applicants gets chosen for their program. Also, they told me that after January 2007, they will no longer have the Associates Degree program for RN. (bummers) That really scares me.

dtermineddenise,
You really should give Barnes a call directly to get the info. They have changed things up a bit. Their ASN program for Jan 2007 is already full and they are no longer taking applications for that program. I got that from the admissions director and two people in the nursing department directly on two different occasions.
They are expanding the upper division BSN program and the accelerated program.
The BSN can be finished in 2 years, but in order to apply you must have completed or have proof of enrollment in the prereqs.
Thanks for the reply. Wow!! Is that really true? They accepted my application for Associates RN for Jan. 2007. As a matter of fact, I have an appointment to take the NET. In the BSN program, does it take two years to complete the accelerated BSN or the regular BSN program? Did you take the NET? If so, what was your experience with it? Thanks for the quick response.

When did you put in your application for the ASN program?
The accelerated program takes 3 semesters (one year) to complete.
I put the application in earlier this week. I wonder if I can also apply for the BSN program, if it only takes 1 year to complete. That's a cool deal. I just hope that they're not witholding any information about the ASN program. I don't want to be getting my hopes up for nothing. I'm already disappointed about the waiting list at the community colleges.

Unless they have changed their acceptance reqirements the Intermediate algebra has to be completed and the transcript forwarded to them before they consider your application complete. Good luck to you!
Thanks for your reply, Mel. I'm getting ready to enter my second semester of nursing at Forest Park Community College. Lucky me!! Have a great day:lol2:

Glad I stumbled across this thread. I was wondering if you ever started NS yet. I know you had some doubts about Chamberlain, as did I. Good to know you are at a reputable program and are on your way. Congrats!!

I've applied to BarnesJewish and have to complete a couple of pre-reqs before admittance for May 08. I was wondering if anyone knew of a microbiology class that was either online or at one of the community colleges. Also, do you know what the exact starting date for the May 08 program will be?
Thanks.

I heard that Dr Heth was good. He's at either Forest Park CC (I think. If not, it's Florissant Valley). It's not online though...if you find one, please let me know.
Good Luck

I had Dr. Heth at Florissant Valley last spring and he is very good. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot. I received an A, but it was a well earned A as he is good but not easy by any means. You'll learn alot, but expect to work hard as well. I believe he taught at UMSL as well, but I'm not sure.

As for a micro class I know that STLCC offers one, I think at all campuses, but I don't believe they are online. I'm not sure if you are familiar with Myspace but I usually use the "professor rater" on there to see what others think of the teachers. I have found it to be really helpful so far. As for a start date at Barnes I called and asked and was only told the it's usually the 2nd week in May...so??? I was curious, when did you apply? Which program did you apply to? Have you heard back? I applied for the Accelerated BSN program back in Nov. and I have called every week since and still haven't gotten an answer. Hopefully I'll hear soon! It's killing me!
