I've been a nurse for almost 5 years now. The first few years were in the ED in Baltimore City and the past couple years have been in inpatient psych in Baltimore City. I am planning to move to the triangle area (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, NC) in the fall. I was wondering if anyone has experience working the ED in that area. What is it like? Baltimore City has been incredibly rough, an extreme amount of disparities, a lot of drugs and violence, and overall a very busy ED experience. Our ED would often have 4-5 hour wait times. Ratios were generally 4:1 + being on the rapid response team covering the first two floors and parking lot. On the most extreme occasions I'd be juggling two intubated patients, a DKA, and a stemi all at the same time. What's the patient population around the triangle area? Any insight would be very much appreciated. Thank you!!
