do hospitals do a background check without the intentions of hiring you? i was just notified that they are doing a background check and then will be in touch once its complete. thoughts?

Usually a background check means you have made it past the shredder, but is not a sure indication of being hired. The difficult part is that such checks take time... sometimes a couple of weeks.

They probably would not spend the time and money unless they felt they would hire you.

They often farm these out. It's the last step to rule out potential hirees. Credit report, criminal background check, driving record, military records are collected by an independant agency. Unless you used a bad check to buy a stolen army jeep and got a speeding ticket during the getaway, congratulations on the job.
