Back w/ all my books, and am already stressed!

Published

$733 dollars and a back ache later I am home with all of my nursing books for my start date of 8/31 and am now umm, terrified! I don't know which book(s) go with which class! I desperately need some organizational pointers as to how to manage this nursing school bit. I do have an iphone so if anyone knows of any app I should get please let me know. I haven't gotten any type of planner yet, if I should please advise as well. I also haven't gotten any supplies yet, clueless on folder or binder? And if that's not enough I suck at math! I bought the "stressed out over nursing math" book and started reading that, plus the "test taker skills for nursing students". Guys, I just need advise, opions and help! I just finished taking a full summer load of courses, and actually just realized from Jan until now I have gotten 32 credits completed! Add on my 12 this fall and man, that's ALOT! Maybe that's why I'm so flipped out just from picking up my books??????????? I dunno, but really, since I put them on my bookshelf my heart started pounding and I just feel overwhelmed, and discouraged!:banghead:

I felt this way too. Then, I was informed that most of those books would be supplementing me for the next two years, not just one semester.

Good luck to you all. I have my final course beginning this month and I am done with heavy books. Oh boy, what a journey!

I felt this exact way last week when I bought my library, lol. It's overwhelming!! I've actually started reading the nursing fundamentals book, lol! Like someone else said....these will last the whole program. Anyway, good luck!

I agree will everyone here. The schools generally bundle their textbooks together to get the best deal for the students. They will be used over the course of your program. Just remember to pace yourself, plan on some wiggle room for those little surprises life tends to throw our way and you will do fine.

Yeah, it can be overwhelming. Here's a line from Anne Lamott (a writer) that may be helpful:

"Bird by bird, buddy. Just take it bird by bird."

The story behind it is that her brother had a big bird project due right after a family vacation. He had not started on it, and was feeling overwhelmed. That line was the advice his father gave him.

During orientation, our instructors gave us all index cards with motivational quotes on them, and told us to keep them to look at wehen the going got tough. I made a couple more of my own. One had that line on it. (another one says "All it can do is kill me!" But maybe that's not very motivational! :chuckle

My first semester of nursing school will be starting August 31st too. I really can't give you much advice since it will be my first semester too. I haven't bought my books or have an orientation yet but I already feel the stress is coming on its way BUT whenever I feel discourage, I remind myself how hard I had to work to get into the nursing school and how on top of the world I feel when I got an acceptance phone call. This is just the beginning. You will do amazing and you are not alone!!!
