Hi! I really need help guys.
I have a BA in Sociology and recently decided to go the nursing route. I have taken pre-reqs for nursing early in my college years but the science courses I took are over 5 years old now so I have to retake them. Upon graduating I also messed up on summer classes and graduated w/ a 2.75 GPA which is way below the required GPA's of any of the private school nursing programs, which has to be at least 3.0 and above. Now I'm thinking of taking the pre reqs from a Community College where it's cheaper and at the same time raise my GPA average that way and then apply for the BSN program at private nursing schools. I do not want to do public schools just because of how limited the seats are.
I need advice on what I should do, or if anybody here had tried doing that? Please share your experience. I am pointing towards doing the Accelerated Nursing Program (BSN) - just because it makes more sense since I already have a Bachelors' or should I do Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)? - but then I'll still have to retake the pre reqs, correct? What are the pros and cons of both and what to expect before I apply to the private nursing schools for both BSN and MSN. Anything I need to prepare for and complete?
I just want to get ideas/input to help me decide what is best for my situation. I need to do this right. I do not want to mess up anything in the process. I've wasted so much time already! I appreciate it! Thank you guys!

One thing to research is what the market is like where you want to work. Where I'm at, most of the hospitals look negatively at Direct Entry MSN programs, and I've been told, at least, that some of the hospitals won't hire nurses from those types of programs period. This area is also saturated with nursing schools, so the hospitals have their pick of candidates.
Either way, it's certainly something to consider.
