Authorization to sit NCLEX from UK nurse

Published

Help - I live in Florida and I've applied to the Florida Board of Nursing to sit the NCLEX without success. My University from England has supplied transcripts/charts etc but they still say there is missing information. Traveling nurses suggest going through Minnesota Board of Nursing and then get endorsed in Florida.

Does anyone have any experience with time frames, how long endorsement takes etc...and is Minnesota quicker with fewer obstacles?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Did you have clinical and theory in adult med/surg, geriatrics, pediatrics, obstetrics/maternity, and psych/mental health? If not applying to MN will be a waste of time & money.

You don't apply for the NCLEX but a nursing license by examination. The credentials evaluation required by nearly every state from CGFNS determines if your education and training is equivalent to US standards. US nurses are generalist trained with clinical & theory in all of the above areas.

Whether Florida, Minnesota or Texas all candidates for nursing license by examination or endorsement are required to have clinical & classroom education on the nursing school transcripts in the areas of adult, geriatric, pediatric, obstetrics, & mental health (in addition to microbiology, nutrition, anatomy & physiology, psychology, sociology and pharmacology...which is integrated in some programs.

Generally IEN's have to meet same requirements when endorsing as if initial application. Some states that require CGFNS exam may waiver the exam and accept CES report when endorsing but requirements like clinical and theory in Paeds, Mental Health, Obstetrics and Adult are very similar from state to state

Thank-you 'justbeachynurse'!

Yes, I have clinical and theory hours in all those areas. My school of nursing couldn't breakdown the hours of nutrition and microbiology on the report (even though they were covered in other disciplines) and this was rejected by the Florida Board. I was wondering if all boards are the same.

Thanks again!

Hi there,

I am also a UK nurse that has gone through the long and grueling process to get the ok to do the nclex. It took me almost a year to get through the cgfns process and have my education approved by the Nursing board in Oregon. I did not have to go back to school or anything like that. I am now able to sit the nclex which i have scheduled for december.

Average time for CGFNS is 4 months from start to finish. Sometimes sooner sometimes later but a lot depends on how timely documents are sent in

Hi Etphonehome1,

Hi everyone,

I graduated in Finland and also lack clinicals in pediatrics and obstetrics....kind of in the same boat with some you all here. Been trying to get approval from Oklahoma board of nursing and they are demanding for those clinicals. Does anyone know any school I can contact to get those clinicals?
