by Loray Loray Member

Hi does anyone have a similar program as this Mental Health Nurse Incentive Program.

In Australia (MHNIP) nurse works in community as a Credentialed Mental Health Nurse

Is referred patient's through a Doctor (GP General Practitioner ).

The nurse see the patient and visits are claimed back from our Medicare system.

Thanks for reading.

Interesting sounding Program, Loray.

I have set up and/or worked in similar sounding Programs in Home Health and through Community Mental Health Agencies. Benefits were recieved through Medicaid, Medicare, and sometimes, Private Insurance Companies.

Usually an MD Psychiatrist is required to Direct these Programs or make these types of referrals. I don't believe, in Illinois USA, an Patient's Primary Medical Doctor can order and oversee Psychiatric Nursing Visits, specifically. Medical Doctors often prescribe psychotropics, but Mental Health Care needs to be referred, assessed, and prescribed by a Psychiatrist.

Anyway, that's the way it was 10 years ago when I worked in Community Mental Health.

Hopefully, Others will chime in and give their viewpoint.
