Hello! Just wondering if there is anyone else out there starting 1st semester nursing at ACC this fall?

Nope, but I am applying for entry next year. Are you? If so, how long did you have to wait to be accepted from their wait list?
Veggiegarden.
I guess I applied about 2 years ago. I have lost track of time. At the time I applied I was 168 on the list. I seemed to move up pretty fast as I finished my prereqs. Anyway, once I was in, I had to defer twice because I had to take physiology II and had a hard time getting into a night class. I finally finished physio last fall and decided to take a break from school for a semester. I will be starting the ADN program in 3 weeks.
I know the review list is long but hang in there. Good luck to you!
Yikes, 2 years. I hope you get more responses, because I'd like to know how the program/instructors are...although I've heard good things about it--even heard the hospitals prefer nurses trained at ACC as opposed UT.
Hello!
Well I'm going to try this again! My darn computer locked up earlier, right before I was going to email my response to you.
The ACC program I have been told is excellent. That's why I chose it! Lots of practical expierence. I have talked with various nurses and physicians that had great comments about ACC nurses. I think all the instructors are probably really good, I've been advised by friends ahead of me on which instructors to try to avoid because they are well...lets just say "testy".
I'll just suck it up. I have worked so hard to get it in, I'm not going to fail now. (By the way, Physiology II was a !$#@%! I was warned by fellow students before I took it and they weren't kidding.)
I had an instructor in nursing skills that made me so nervous. It never failed, I would always get her do my mastery check offs. She had my partner and me on the brink of tears one time and I was 39 years old at the time! My classmates would say "I don't want so and so, for check off." I just decided to quit being so thin skinned and dive in and just do it! Things improved from that day. By the end of the five weeks I really liked her.
She instructs 2nd semester nursing and I am going to try to get her for clinics!
Are you finished with your prereqs? If not, what do you have left?
I hope this helped!
Yes, thank you.
I've got a few things yet to take--A&P II, Micro (again--have to re-take since it's been over 5 years) and Pharmacology....also a couple other courses since I will probably apply to a couple of other RN programs in Texas that have addt'l prereqs. You'll have to post an update once you start the program, and give us the scoop :). Good luck!

Hi, I've heard good things about ACC, and talked to a few Nurse Mangers that would prefer them to UT grads. Now, everyone's different so I'm not saying that's across the board. Growing up, you either love UT or hate it, so I actually left Austin. I'm doing my prereqs at Blinn in Bryan and hopefully TWU in Houston for BSN.
Best of luck to you, Austin is on the move to say the least and ACC is really a great Program for what I've read.
Can we say "we are dammmn marketable!"
Ciao!
