Aus healthcare

Published

Hi all :),

Im new to this site and have been reading with interest the heated debates that Universal Healthcare evokes among the US nurses. I'm interested in what Oz nurses think about our system. I may be a little naive...but I think its ok citywise. Rural/outback needs work. Paywise...it would be nice to get a little more! What do you suggest needs working on??

Hello, Andi:

I am a graduate student nurse in Illinois, USA. I am doing a class project on contacting a global partner to discuss nursing issues in another country. Would you be willing to tell me about were you work, if you go to school or are planning, and some nursing issues in Australia. Some nursing issues we have in the US is a nursing shortage especially in inpatient care. This is a dilemma because we will have a large population of older adults (the so called "baby boomers") that will need our care in 10 to 20 years and there will not be enough nurses to provide the quality care they will need. Also,

most nurses will be retiring in about 10-20 years and the problem will be even worst. There is also a great need for nurse educators to teach those prospective nurses. These are some of the many issues that the nursing community and the US is dealing with. Please respond with your input and thanks for your time!:nurse:
