Attending a College That is New

[color=#033d3d]so i went to an info session at mildred elley last night in the new manhattan location. i'm having a problem deciding if i want to attend/apply to this school because this location has just opened. they have no graduates yet to compare opinions and grades. i think i have a good chance of getting accepted but i'm so leery to sign up for this school because i'm assuming they are going to be unorganized because everything is so new. they just opened in may. i'm applying for the february or march session. do you think by then they might have worked out all of the kinks. they said they are fully accredited now. (originally the were an extension school). any advice would be appreciated. they kept telling me to check the albany locations stats. i have also applied to 4 cuny schools and 1 other private school for january.

on behalf of mildred elley, i would like to thank you for your interest in our manhattan campus and our practical nursing program.

mildred elley has been in existence since 1917 and has graduated thousands of students who have gone on to pursue professional careers in the state of new york.

our newly built and fully equipped campus in manhattan is solely devoted to medical assisting and practical nursing programs and providing advanced job training to prepare you for a career in nursing.

thank you for considering mildred elley's practical nursing program.

if you have further questions one of our admissions representatives would be happy to assist you at (866) 878-0041 or by e-mail at [email protected].

Thank you but I was hoping to get some feedback from current students at either location or former students from the Albany location. I am really interested in this school. The location is great for me and I wouldnt have to be on a long wait list. I just would like to be sure. This is a big decision and staff from the school can not give me the kind of info that I need.

If they won't give you the information....then I think you're seeing a symptom. I'm sure there would be no delay in accepting your check.

Hi boohill,

I currently attend the Albany camopus LPN program. I just started this summer and I love it, I am learning so much just in the few classes I am taking. I am happy with my instructors so far, they have been so helpful. If I was you I would definately sign up for the lpn program. I have wanted to be a nurse for so long but could not find a school to fit my schedule or it had a 2-3 year waiting list. Now I just focus on passing all my classes because I now I am on the road to a nurse.

I hope this was helpful.

Thank you Divalicious. I am definitely applying and I hope I get in. I just wanted to hear from some people who are attending.

Good luck. You are on your way!!

Anyone else???

Hi everyone,

I took the entrance test and scored over 207; The hightest is 200. If you score below 200, you qualify for the medical assitance program. If you maintain a b or higher in the MA program, you have priority over new LPN applicants and half of the class you take in MA program will transfer i.e, bio, eng, ect. The entrance test is not timed. If math is your weakness, study! (ACT/Compass. org) Study your pre alg and very little basic math. ACT is closes to their actual. The reading was easy because its not timed so take your time and read carefully and choose the best answer. The Writing part is basically fixing grammatical errors, like run on, periods and etc... now just because I scored 207, doesnt mean Im in the program. The first candidate to complete the entire process by bring in all required documents, will get an exceptance letter; theres no room for procastination. OverallThe staff is very nice and professional.

Hi all

I scored 244 on the compass test and that is high enough to go directly into the LPN program. I havent decided if I will sign up for evening or weekend classes yet. Im leaning more towards the evening program.

I am a student of Mildred Elley and in the first class that started in May, I haven't sat for the boards yet but preparing to take it within the next two months.

While my time at Mildred Elley was stressful and aggravating, mostly due to the fact that we are the first class and growing with the school, I will also say that this school is not for the weak, if you attend you must be intelligent and know how to demand what is important to you. There is a lot of information that they withhold and you must know the right questions to ask. I won't discourage anyone from going there because I did and it set me up to take the NCLEX but just know that you must be an A student to stay in the nursing program, the turnover rate is very high with the staff but for the most part the instructors are great and do want to see you succeed. Good luck
