I was nominated as a Level 1 representative to our student nursing association by a fellow classmate. I definitely feel honored.
On Thursday I need to give a 2 minute spiel about my qualifications to serve in this position. Given that I haven't served as an elected representative to anything since high school (many moons ago), any suggestions for things I should play up?
I was going to talk about the job I held before starting NS - operations manager for a real estate company. One of my main responsibilities was the dissemination of information which is important to this position. I was also responsible for helping to plan and organize events and functions.
Any other things I should mention/highlight? I'm a non-traditional student with previous bachelors degree and 10+ years in the professional world with tons of mad administrative and people skillz!
I'd love any advice or suggestions you may have.
Thanks!

It sounds like you are more than qualified for this nomination!! Congrats! Make sure you talk some about what made you decide to go to nursing school and how you're in this for the long haul just like everyone else. You don't want people to be too intimidated by you. Just be down to earth and sincere and your fellow students will love you!

I was the student nurse Reprensenative last semester ! I loved it :) I was basically the student liason for the nursing students. I would attend meetings with the faculty and discuss the concerns of nursing students. I also took my position very seriously. I encouraged my class, I would lead study sessions. There were times when I would actually teach or breakdown information for the class, before the class began. I made sure that the students had my cell or email, so that they can feel comfortable discussing their issues with me, so that I can bring it to the facultys' attention. Good luck, You'll do great.
