arrest record and nursing school worries

Published

I have to be fingerprinted for a clinical site tomorrow and am a little worried. I had a background check before I started school and there was no issue. Tomorrow, however, I have to do the whole FBI background check. I have an arrest record with no conviction for domestic violence. The whole thing was blown way out of proportion and the cops were overzealous. It clearly states in the report that both parties said no violence occurred, it was merely a verbal dispute. Basically, we were yelling (I'm sure not the first couple to do so either). I lived in an apartment building with walls that could could hear someone yawn thru. Well the police said in this state they had to arrest someone and in their experience it's typically the female who's the aggressor (no joke!!), so that's how it went down. When my boyfriend heard that, he begged them to take him instead if someone had to go. Nope, they decided I was their unlucky victim of the day. Considering they had no evidence and the supposed "victim" swore I've never laid a finger on him in anger EVER, it was dismissed. I have spoken with my state's BON regarding this issue and they said that since it did not lead to conviction, it shoudln't be an issue. Luckily, they believe in innocent until proven guilty. However, I am afraid my school might kick me out if this surfaces. I don't know why it didn't come up when they screened me before starting, but I am totally freaked that this will surface and I wil be ejected from the program. I am aware that certain hospitals will screen for arrests too, but that not all do. Knowing this, I planned to only apply to ones that asked about convictions, not arrests. I am afraid that if my site wont take me, I wont be able to complete my clinical hours. Any advice or encouragement???? :(
