Nursing program at Southern Arkansas University

U.S.A. Arkansas

I am interested in SAU ADN program. I was rejected from the school of my choice. I was wondering about this school.

Is the ADN program really only 2 years? I have most of the gen ed courses that are required on the website. How many hours a week are you in class just for the nursing classes? What about clinicals?

Yes it is really two years. The classes are two days out of the week. When you start doing your hospital work it will still be two days out of the week for Level 1 and 2. I have no idea about level 3 and 4. I think the longer you are in a nursing program the more days it will be. I have no clue.

I've heard it was awful. Very unorganized. I'm at Southark and there are several people in my class that left SAU. Their BSN isn't accredited either.

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to downgrade SAU. Turns out I just got some info from a couple disgruntled students at my school. I've heard many good things about the program. I apologize if I offended anyone.

thanks, britann for returning with your clarification of why you made the statement.

sau really is a fine program.

Thanks for replying. I was afraid about going to Sau but I am not. I passed Level 1 and it was hard. I am so happy I chosed SAU because I believe if you study hard and try your best you can go to any nursing school. So how is your nursing program.

It's great to hear you're doing well! I'm actually not in the program yet. I'm still slaving away at these prereqs!

Work really hard in your prereqs. Because nursing courses are hard but the grading scale is so different. I wish you lots and lots of luck. Wish me luck in starting Level 2 I am a test JAN 30.

I am really glad to hear that you all are doing well. I graduated class of 99 at SAU. I loved the school and the instructors. I think most of them have retired, but they were EXCELLENT instructors. Study hard and listen to them and you will do well.

I have worked with 2 RNs who graduated from the ADN program at SAU in 1998 and 2000 and they were both great.

Thanks for all of your support. I will most differently try my best. It is nice to hear from some graduates. It inspires me. :wink2:

The 75% rule was there to keep the students whose knowledge wasn't up to par on the material out of the clinical setting. A instructor who has a student who is doing poorly in class will need to spend more time with the failing student out of fear of a mistake being made due to lack of knowledge on the students part. This in turn takes time away for the students who are passing and need help in clinicals. I personally don't think it was a good idea to do away with it. If someone has to make a 90% or higher on the rest of the tests to pass the odds are greatly against them.

How did you study for Level 2. There are not alot of repeats. I was surprised because they saw this is the easiest level. Do you have any studying advice. Thanks for your help. :wink2:

Go SAU! My husband got his ADN there in 1990.
