Moving close to Little Rock

U.S.A. Arkansas

Published

My husband and I are both RN's siving in Dallas, Tx. I am from Mississippi and he is from Louisiana. Dallas had turned out to be TOO BIG for us and we are looking to move somewhere outside of Little Rock in the spring of next year. Im sure we will both work in Little Rock...(me possibly at Childrens and him...?) I work PICU and he is Adult ICU Trauma and hearts. Any comments about Childrens?

My question is: what areas are the best to live and raise a new family?

we have been married a little over a year and will be starting a family next year as well. Ive heard good things about Conway and Cabot. Any other places? We would love to be on a lake or either have a few acres. Arkansas is such a pretty place and we are just trying to get opinions from people who know the areas better than we do.

Thank you in advance for any responses!

hello, kdc89 and welcome to the arkansas forum

cannot blame you in the least wanting a smaller area.

children's is a great hospital and i think you will be most satisfied there. uams is good as well. i recommend there. baptist is also a wonderful place to work. of course, you will have others who disagree and i suppose that is just going to be personal opinion.

cabot is a nice place. i'm not familiar with conway of late. hot springs is a thriving area with beautiful (expensive) homes. of course, my favorite area is north arkansas.

will be good to have a louisiana and a mississippi transplant and make razorbacks out of both of you. gotta learn to call the hogs!! not sure you've heard, but we lost the "voice of the arkasas razorbacks" last week in a fatal mva. so very sad. you would have loved him.

hope this helps some and i'm sure others will come along and give you some advice.

Well Siri,

thank you for the reply....although Arkansas will be great because it is SEC...It would be impossible to sway us from our home schools of Ole Miss, Miss State and LSU! But its all fun...its all SEC. We do like the Razorbacks...and will pull for them, unless they are playing the above schools!

Texas just has something called the Big 12! LOL.

Conway and Cabot are the 2 we are really looking at, and Mayflower.

Hot Springs will be too far away. We don't want to have to drive more than 30 miles, if we can manage, to go to work.

Let me know if you have any other advice.

Thanks again.

well, i did my undergrad in louisiana at nlu (at least, it was nlu then). post grad in texas.

hogs eat rebs, tigers and longhorns - ha ha ha ha ha - you know i'm picking at ya'll...........

but...............i've always been a razorback at heart and will be forever!

yes, if you are definitely going to work in lr, hot springs is too far away. maumelle area is a nice place to live in and around lr. but, like i said, cabot is pretty cool. i think you will be satisfied.

and, like i said, i'm certain you will love children's. everything comes there from all around the state and out of state, too. i'm associated with uams, so i'm a little partial. used to work at baptist and it is on my top list, too.

but.............and, that's a huge but..............you will have to learn to call the hogs. mandatory, ya know. can't get a driver's license in the state until you perfect it. ha ha ha ha ha ha

will be great to have ya'll.

We just moved to Cabot about two months ago from south of Atlanta. So far, we really do like it. Do you have children? The schools here are supposed to be excellent. It doesn't start until the 21st so I don't have any personal experience yet. Yesterday the Junior High North burned to the ground though, they think it was electrical but they are not sure where all those kids are going to go yet. The high school is brand new this fall and it is a beautiful building.

I am going to start taking nursing pre-reqs at ASU Beebe this fall and hope to go to nursing school in Little Rock in a year or so. I'm 45 so this is a career change for me-but one I've always dreamed of.

Feel free to email any questions. I can tell you about specific areas and we did love our realtor if you need a name.

We do really like the area. It is small town but only 25-30 minutes to Little Rock.

Hey CAMeadors, you sound like me I always wanted to be in the nursing field but it wasn't until I was 43 that I finally made that step. I am going into my last semester of LPN classes. Are you going from LPN to RN or just RN? I want to go on to RN school but still have alot pre-reqs to get there, so we will see. Right now I just need a break.

Hey Don't Quit glad I'm not the only one to do a mid life career change. What did you do before? I was most recently a high school math teacher for 5 years, then I was in accounting. I'm planning to go straight for an RN but I can't decide where in Little Rock to go. Where are you from? What kind of pre-reqs do you have to have to go from LPN to RN? I already have a degree (in accounting) so I think all I have to take is all the science courses before I can apply to nursing school.

I have done a number of things but my last job was in retail at a bridal shop. I loved the job but I wasn't going anywhere and I wanted to do something fullfilling. I am originally from southeastern Ok but have lived in the El Dorado AR area for the last twenty-three years. My recs that I can think of right now are comp II Entermediate and college algerbra, psych I and II, diet and nutrition and finally A&P I and II.

Conway is about 30 miles from Little Rock, but the drive isn't 30 minutes. My sister-in-law does that commute everyday, good days are usually 40 to 45 minutes. Bad days are 1 to 1.5 hours. But Conway is a pretty town but booming.

Now I like Hot Springs and they have several hospitals also. But if I could get my husband to move out of Pine Bluff I would really go to the Springdale/Fayetville area I really like it up there. But my husband says that is too close to his companies corporate office.

Hello,

I am new to the L.R. area myself. I'm orignally from Ft. Smith but moved here from NW AR from Harrison, AR (about 30 south of Branson MO). We are currently living in Benton. I work at St. Vincents which is approx. 30 miles or a little less SW of LR. I have worked both day and night shift and my commute time is right at 20-25 min. from my house to the hospital parking lot. I never have any traffic issues as I am always either ahead or behind the traffic rush. We are renting now but looking to buy a home soon and have looked around the Cabot area, but have been pleased w/ the Benton and Bryant area. I have a 5th and 8th grader and am pleased so far with both of their schools. We have been here since May and find it to be a great area to raise a family. I too am looking for work at Children's. Good luck to you and your husband in your move.

I work at Children's and live in Bryant, which is a suburb of Little Rock. Wonderful place to live and raise a family and some of the best schools in the state.

I am planning on moving to LR the in January. I am finishing nurse anesthesia school in December. I was hoping somebody can give me some insight about the Hospitals there.

Thanks
