Anyone else here finishing up for the Rio Microbiology finals this week? If you so, did the midterm seem really brutal to you as well?

AZ911, sorry it won't let me return your pm, and I wouldn't want to throw my instructors name out there in the public eye on the forum. The difficulty of the class really isn't the instructors fault anyways, it's the way the course is layed out. If you have any possibility of taking the class in person somewhere, do that. I had a 96 going into the midterm and got a 79 on the mid term. The lessons are a pain because theres some issues with the lessons not matching the text book. And you'll be asked questions that aren't neccissarily in that chapter of the textbook. I was told the chapter the lesson tells you is just a guide, you have to use the index to find everything you need. That and the practice quizes have some just teribbly written questions on them (they reminded me of NREMT). THis will be the LAST class I ever take at Rio, I've taken most of mine there before and gotten A's through hard work, but this class i really don't know what to expect even going into the final. If you need books for your class though I've got the text, cd's, and the study guide.

All I can say is I really wish that I had NOT signed up for CHM and Micro this semester!

took my final yesterday, not nice at all. 88 on first part 75 on second. Not going to be enough to hold my a, looks like i'll likely get dropped to a b. I think the best I can hope for is a 89.5 and I don't think they round up.

I am taking mine next Wed, ( the first day you can), got a 73% on my midterm, and have an 85% in the class currently, so I'm just hoping to pass the class and hope I can keep my B, since I need it to apply for BNFP by April 2.

I am starting BIO 205, next week, Monday the 15th. Is it really hard? I am doing the 8 week class, so we have things due twice a week. Any tips? I am currently in BIO 201, and that has been tough for me, I feel like what we learn, we aren't tested on. It is frustrating, I am just hoping for a good grade!

I took my final on friday, was definately rough. Got a 85, and ended the class with an A. Actually just got home from mailing my NAU app out. If you're having trouble with bio201 I don't know that I'd try the bio205 8 week. If you can do well in it though, more power too you. Its different for everyone, and I work full time and have to watch my daughter, so I didn't really have as much time as i'd like to work on it

I agree with azchic, I have 2 young ones at home 2 and 4, and it's hard to concentrate and actually retain the info, what helped me with both BIO 201 and 202 at rio was I used the website and did the practice test as a way to study, and it helped me figure out where I needed work, I am doing the same here with BIO 205, except its a 8 week course and much harder to me then A&P. Make sure to do all the essay questions and look online for other practice tests, many sites have chapter tests, if u have the time, with Micro, I only have time to do the website versions. I currently have 2 more chapters to read, 2 more labs, 1 essay assignment and 1 more quiz before my final, so I have my work cut out for me, and my oldest has Spring break next week, ( wish I could send the kids somewhere for the first few days so I can really buckle down and study.) Good Luck!!

azhic, not chic =) but, yeah I was in pretty much the same boat as mamabear. Let me know if anyone needs the books, I have everything and am throwing it on craigslist. I also have all the chapters printed in a binder if anyone wants to look it over before deciding on taking the class.

I'm sure you guys have been asked this before, but can someone shed more light on what exactly you have to do for Bio 205? This is the last class I have to take and will have to do it from home since I have a baby due in late May. What are your labs like, what are the tests and essay's like? Any information would be extremely helpful. And if you could give me a better understanding of your timelines and what is due when, that would be good too.

Thank you

Crystal

BIO205 does not seem to be as much work as BIO201 and BIO202. You still have essays, quizzes and lab assignments. The essays do not seem to be as difficult as in BIO201 and BIO202, or maybe it is just my instructor is not as anal as my BIO202 instructor was! The labs are not difficult at all. It is mainly identifying and answering questions from the lab instructions which are online. Like the others have said, the midterm was brutal.. I thought I was doing decent, but ended up with a 77%, and had a 98% on my coursework prior to that. The lessons since the midterm have been pretty difficult for me to understand, and there is a lot more memorization than there seemed to be in the first half of the class. I am already starting to freak out about the final which is in about 3 more weeks. You should have no problem taking this class with a newborn. I have an 8 month old that is crawling and in to everything and a 5 year old and it is difficult to find time to study, but doable. Good luck!
