Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program

U.S.A. Arizona

Is there anyone out there who has applied to NELRP. I'm having trouble with my hospital giving me a letter certifying they are a Disproportionate share hospital. They know absolutely nothing about it and they have referred it to their legal department. HRSA tells me some hospitals have form letters they issue and it's no big deal. If I could locate one maybe my hospital could call them. Meanwhile I could be missing out on applying because the deadline is March 9. HRSA makes it absolutely as difficult as possible to apply, nevermind their "threatening" attitude in their application guidelines, e.g. if you miss ONE thing they will trash the application and won't even let you know or give you an opportunity to fix it, for example if you forgot to sign one of the many forms. Really helpful, huh? I'm sure this is not what congress had in mind when they created this program. It was supposed to help nurses with large student loan debt and encourage them to work in critically underserved hospitals. So, HELP!

I was thinking those letters wouldn't be out for another month so I hope my son gets one. Do you work in a DSH hospital? congratulations because you are one of the few who actually got the money. I'm sure you are so excited. It's wonderful.

Thanks :)

Bank papers were already filled out as part of the required forms to submit when applying for the NELRP, back in March.

The NELRP is for those that are already done with school. I've been out of school for over 2 years now, and it was a private school. Since I was accepted for the NELRP, I am now in contract for 2 years at my hospital, and in return they will pay off 60% of my student loans.

Congratulations on getting this!

Thank you!

Yeah I work for a DSH hospital. I was also told the letters would be "mailed out by Oct. 31", so I was surprised to see it last week. Good luck to your son!

Does anyone know which hospitals in phoenix area are DSH hospitals? Or what hospitals qualify you to apply for this program?

There are a ton of DSH hospitals in/around Phx. Do you have any specific ones in mind?

Just curious which ones in east valley may qualify. I am doubting any in scottsdale will qualify. Possibly scottsdale healthcare osborn?

DSH means that the hospital has a disproportionately large share of low-income patients and that they receive a certain percentage of their payments from Medicaid. Therefore the Scottsdale hospitals are out.

East valley hospitals that I would check with would be Mesa General, Banner Desert, Tempe St. Lukes, and Chandler Regional.

I can't tell you for sure that all of those qualify. But I would call the ones that you're interested in, and ask them if they qualify for the Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program. They'll be able to tell you.

I Have Been Desperately Tryng To Get Funding From The Nelrp For The Past 3 Years, And Have Been Denied All 3 Times. Can Someone Please Give Me Advice On Obtaining The Employment Verification. This Seems To Be The The Area I,m Having Troulbe With Documentation.

For those of you that need to take out large loans for nursing school, have you considered Southwest? Their nursing loans are almost no interest if you work in AZ or FL after graduation!! Plus if you can get on with Americorps, Americorps will pay your interest rate that accrues while you're in school, so you can get out of NS with a loan with almost no interest. Here is the link for Southwest,

You just put their name down when you fill out your loan application.

Does anyone know which hospitals qualify for the NELRP? I was told St. Joes does, but haven't found out for sure.

Thanks,

Block 4- 38 days and counting (until finals)

I see that you referenced Southwest as being a great resourse for student nurses in Arizona. If you don't mind me asking, can you tell me how much you took out and if this applies to private loans also? Also, did you speak to just one of their customer service reps? IF so, is there someone you recommend?

Thanks!!

The Employment Verification form is something you need to get filled out from the HR department.

When I went to HR, I told them that I needed to have the form filled out for the NELRP .... they knew exactly what it was, they filled it out in like 10 minutes, and they wished me luck. If your employer participates in NELRP, then they should be familiar with it.

Good luck to you!

I have a question about the NELRP? Did anyone apply for it and then get a contract to sign through email, and set up your acct number and have to send it within 24 hours. It says its not garantee, but does everyone do this??
