Need help with fall pre-reqs

U.S.A. Arizona

Hi. I'm currently enrolled in fon241, bio202, & arh102 for fall '12 at GCC. I need one more since I have 8 to finish for GCU's requirements & splitting them evenly for fall & spring. I'm torn between hcr210 & psy240. Any suggestions? I think that's a lot for me but I am trying to apply in the spring. Which one would be easier? Any feedback would be appreciated.Thank you

Hi there!

I'm actually applying for the same program! I'm currently at GCC too taking pre reqs to apply to the summer '13 GCU program. :). I'm taking Bio205, psy230, hcr240, and com270 this fall. I dont know how difficult the stats class will be but I did take hcr210 last spring. I'd take that class if I were you. Although I took mine online, it seemed pretty easy and straightforward. It was mainly just reading chapters. I'm nervous about the statistics class. I've never been really good at math!

We're in the same boat. I'm not a huge fan of math neither! What time & day is you psy class? If I do hcr I'll be going on tu th at 11 for arh & sitting around until 5:30 for hcr. I live in Goodyear & didn't want to have to drive back & forth. What did you think of bio 202 assuming you took it already. 201 was hard but I really need to bring my science gpa up. It's a 3.0 but I need it to be much higher. I'm so stressed thinking I won't ace these classes to get into GCU.

Do HCR 210. The class is a breeze and you already have a full load.

I am taking Statistics this summer. My instructor is great. She didnt require us to buy a textbook, just a class packet. Stats is pretty easy if you can remember PEMDAS. I am taking it at CGCC right now. My advice would be to take as many pre req and co reqs before you start nursing school. Since I already have a BS I didnt have to worry abt the college math and second semester of A & P. Also if you are going the BSN route take those pre reqs before you get your RN.

My psy lecture and lab is MW 10-11:50 and then lecture only on F 10-11:50.

At least with your time gap you'll have lots of time to do homework/study! :) my schedule is all back to back from 10-2:30 so I basically only have 10 mins to walk to class between each class! Lol

Bio202 was challenging for me but I took it over the first summer session which made it pretty intense! I ended up with an A but definitely had to work hard for it. I had -------------- and he's a really good teacher. He really makes sure that you understand the material. I'm sure his class would be a lot easier during the semester since there's more time to really learn everything. But I definitely am glad I got it out of the way this summer! It was an intense June for me while I was in that class! Lol

I'm actually more stressed about the TEAS test! I've been studying a little bit but since math isn't my best subject I'm scared I might not get the 70 required for GCU on that math portion!

This is probably a dumb question but is stats heavy with graphing?! I already have a BA too! I took a sociology stats class online and I definitely didn't really understand what I was doing. I took it at ASU and we used this SPSS program (I think that's the acronym) and I never understood how to use it! So if this stats class is anything like my sociology stats class, I'm nervous!!

We did use SPSS in our class but it was minimal. You just needed to understand how to read the results. The times we had to input data was just to get us familiar with the program and the process.

We didnt do any graphing like in calc or college algebra. We talked abt SPSS but didnt go into it too much. If you PM me, I can tell you more info like the class website which actually has the book.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback! My counselor from GCU called me & he said it doesn't look like I'll be ready to apply for summer fast track but can apply in may for fall. Since a few pre-req requirements are changing he said I didn't need hcr anymore. Therefore, my schedule is bio 202, psy 230, & fon 241. Shouldn't be too bad huh? Starting Fall '13 there will be a 16 month fast track. That's what I'll be applying for. Tine23tine can you give me the initials of your bio instructor? The name was erased since we're not allowed to use instructors' names on here.
