NAU and MN CEP fast track option for Spring 2013 Block 1

I just wanted to point out that the fast track option was first introduced to the Fall 2012 cohort at GCC only, so there is no one in the 2011 cohorts to give you any feedback. We at GCC were told we were the pilot for this option.

So it looks like they are rolling it out to other campuses! Good, I think it is a great option. I like that it is an option, because not everyone wants or needs to compress their schedules.

The GCC cohort is only two weeks into the first semester, so difficult to give you much feedback. I don't know how many went for it, I just know there are several of us who chose the option. So far so good. Fall doesn't look bad, but I am a little nervous about Block 2, where the fast trackers take two NAU courses instead of one.

Did the letter give you a tentative outline of classes, so that you can see how many credits per semester you will need to carry?

Ours is similar but not exactly. Note that we will start Block 1 in the Fall, and you will start Block 1 in the Spring. This affects the timing of the summer sessions, which are shorter, and I suspect that there are some NAU courses either not available in summer or just not a good idea to take in the summer. Your fast track schedule is more spread out -- it covers seven semesters. So your heaviest credit load is 14 and occurs only once (Block 4). Our fast-track covers six semesters (only 2 summer sessions) so we will have 14 credit load for both Block 2 and Block 4, and the second summer session requires 8 credits.

I'm just a little nervous about the two semesters where we have 14 credits, but I am at a point in my life where I can live with passing. Of course I want the A average that I am accustomed to, and I will strive to do my best and keep up my grades, but I realize that passing the courses will get me where I want to go. (I am a recovering perfectionist, as I suspect many nursing students are). So I guess what I am saying is that I am not nervous about passing; I am nervous about my ego getting wounded because I may not be able to maintain a perfect 4.0 GPA.

I emailed Stephanie after I had received the email on the accelerated nau portion and asked her if it were possible that we could take a full load through NAU during the summer (and/or possibly winter) to offset having an overly full schedule during fall and spring and she replied that the attachment layout that they provided was how we would have to do it BUT if I decided to try the fast track and realized it didn't work for me I could always drop down to the regular mcccd/nau schedule. So I will probably fax back my letter of intent saying I would like more information on it, and most likely end up trying the accelerated option with the safety that I can always drop to the regular schedule. I'd like to hear everyone elses opinion.

okay so i emailed her as well and she told me the exact same thing. if we can revert back to the regular schedule if it becomes too difficult i will definitely go for it.

i replied back to her to try to find out what that last semester of 14 credits entails. i wonder if the nau 450c and 408 are online or in person as they are "senior" courses. i will most likely go for it because it really is a time saver and i would love to graduate earlier. granted it doesn't affect my gpa too horribly. i want to get in to graduate school to be an np !!! :lol2: if i screw up my undergrad gpa that is not going to happen ! :jester:

That's exactly what I'm going for too, my masters to be a np, and maybe even a CRNA if I'm at a place in my life where I have the time and money to do that. Like I said I'm definitely going to check the box "request more information" and then most likely try the accelerated program but if taking on too much affects my grades I'll go back to the traditional format. Glad I'm finding people who are in the same boat as me. It'll be helpful to get our info packets so we know more of what to expect but like you said if we're not even being "placed" in the system until August or september it might take a while to hear anything else. Keep me posted if you hear anything else.

It won't let me message you because I'm so new here but anyways..i was waitlisted for about 2 years. But now that the majority of open spots are going to CEP students I've heard from whoever answers the phone at the nursing hotline, that it's now going to be 4 years for anyone doing just their associates. OUCH! But advisors are still telling people just applying to the nursing program that its only a 2 year wait. Very wrong. Anyhoo I'm really glad I made it into this program. I'm just so eager to do SOMETHING even though it doesn't start for 7 months I'm already itching to get my uniform and supplies. Lol I'm so OCD I just wan to be as prepared as I can be for these next crazy 2 years.

i did get your pm so i guess it worked! wow 4 years that's crazy. yeah it makes sense that they would give more cep students seats because of the az nurse initiative. by the year 2020 they want 80% of az nurses to have bsn's !!!

i just got on the wait list in february and got into the cep right away. that is wrong students need to know that they will be waiting years. i hope this doesn't offend anyone but honestly why get an associates anyway?? i mean you have to end up going back to school anyway so why not just finish it all in one shot??

i'm glad i made it in too b/c i didn't want to pay the asu tuition lol and be in debt to my ears. right now i'm doing the cna class at mcc. it is really helping me to feel more comfortable with patient care because i don't have any previous healthcare experience.

after all i may not do the fast track option b/c of the last semester of 14 credits. we'll see, keep me posted email me at [email protected] since you can't pm.
