Just wondering how nurses that are currently working in AZ like it? How is the pay for RN's and LPN'S. Any areas that you would recommend?:typing

I guess I like it just fine. I mean, I can't compare it to Kansas nursing since I've never nursed there. So it's hard to say, "how do you like nursing in Az.."KWIM?

As for the pay, well that depends on experience, the field, the hospital/clinic, etc, etc.

Do you have any specific questions?

The truth? This may be more nursing truth than just AZ nursing but what the heck. :)

In my opinion, the best kept secret is hospice nursing. Be in control of your own time. Go to the bathroom, eat, shop, dr appts, attend your kids school functions when you want. Within the hospice field, nurses are in the upper food chain, families love you as you solve problems and are the primary connection to symptom management that family members otherwise may be unable to seek due to pt's being bed-bound etc. From an economic standpoint, I have a feeling its more recession proof than hospital work as one of the main ideas is to reduce healthcare costs by keeping terminal patient's out of expensive hospitalizations such as ERs, ORs, etc. Until hospital nursing improves, I'm happy to say hell NO to hospital nurse abuse and slave labor!

Hey! Don't say that; you're going to scare all the newbies off! And I have just been accepted in to nursing school!

I agree with CardiacRN in that it's hard to say how it is compared to other states, as I've never worked as a nurse in another state.

I really think nursing is very individualized and if you find your niche, then you should be happy. For me, I couldn't do hospice nursing, no way. But I know a lot of people can't work NICU, in a hospital, etc ...... but for me, it's the BEST.

I work in a great unit. I work for a great company that really takes care of their employees. I have a great manager that runs the unit nicely. I have a great group of co-workers. I really couldn't ask for much more. I feel fortunate to have found such a wonderful job ....... but then again, I wouldn't settle for anything less.

I could never do hospice nursing either. For me, I'm a lover of the flexibility of hospital nursing. Plus, I could work as little or as much as I want or need.

I agree that you need to find your niche, and go from there.

Hi,

Are you familiar with Hospice of the Valley and Hospice of Arizona? Any info/recommendations? Thanks!!

Hi, I sent you a pm.

Specializes in Tele/ICU/MedSurg/Peds/SubAcute/LTC/Alz.

LOL, at the comments. I learned not to say anything bad, especially when you are from the East.

My take on it is, they are required to do too much work. Especially, where I am now. I ended up with 9 patients one night. Plus, I failed a PBDS test, which is telling them that I am a bad nurse. Makes me feel so good about myself, NOT... I always had great comments from other places and have met some great nurses along the way, but after that it doesn't make me feel like working there.

I feel like paying back there bonus and going somewhere else.

By the way, I heard that I am in the worst hospital in the city. But, nurses say great things about other hospitals. I really think it depends on where you work.
